As a fan those are the guys you want all safetys emulating

But it's not fair to expect that from him. He might be as good as those guys maybe. Probably not tho TBH. Those are HoFs

I think you can still be elite or on the cusp without being Brian Dawkins level of great.

I think it's still early to put Byard in that elite category but he's headed in that direction if he maintains his level of play. Reed started all 16 his first year while Troy and Byard had to wait till year 2 but If you look at all 3 players in their first 2 seasons as full starters they are all pretty consistent. Arrow is definitely pointing up for Byard that's for sure.

    Polamulu 04 int 5, 1 pick 6,14 PD, 1 FF ,1 sack , 96 tackles, 67 solo
    05 int 2 ,1 FF, 1 FF TD, PD,8 , 3 sacks,91 tackles,73 solo
2 pro bowls, 1 first team all pro

    Reed 02 int 5, 1 sack, 12 PD,85 tackles, 71 solo
    03 int 7, 1 pick 6,15 PD, 1 FF, 1 sack, 71 tackles, 59 solo
    1 pro bowl

    Byard 17 int 8, 2 FR, 16 PD, 87 tackles, 62 solo
    18 int 4 , 2 sacks, 8PD, 90 tackles, 62 solo

1 prow bowl, 1 first team all pro

    Really hate the word elite.
Too many people continue to throw it out there for people that are not even close and it really diminishes the word and the talent that actually is elite.
If you ain’t HoF, you are not elite. Even if you are HoF, you are not then auto elite.
There are probably about 5 players in the entire league that are actually elite and **breaking news** none of them are titans.

Barring some kind of misfortune, Byard has everything he needs to be elite. What round did we pick him in, 5th?

Yea Byard and Troy’s stats their first 3 seasons are similar.

Reed was on a different level his 1st 3 seasons

    1st 2 years of Go-to-Starter experience (2016 Byard only started 7 games)

    Byard

    12 ints, 177 tackles - 124 Solo, 24 PD, 2 FR, 2 Sacks, 8 QB hits.

    Polamalu

    5 ints, 187 tackles - 140 Solo, 22 PD, 2 FF, 4 sacks

    Reed

    12 ints, 156 tackles - 130 Solo, 27 PD, 1 FF, 2 sacks

    He is
well on his way to having a stellar career.
If he can continue to string together production season after production season, He will contend with the greats at safety. At least from the trail he's on right now.. However, he needs to continue to to pad those pass deflection stats as well (which in turn could lead to more ints, tip style) because Ed Reed only had less than 10 PD's twice until his back 9 of his career.

Julio, AB (as far as past), Brady, Brees, Donald, Mack, Kelce (C), Kelce (TE), Walker, Barkley, Zeke, ...

I tried to exclude Titans to avoid bias. I think there’s more than 5 elite players
