If that is your standard, then it is idiotic. If a player isn't athletic enough to leap forward and put two hands on it, then it's suddenly on the QB? It was overthrown, and Taylor made a great effort that just came up short. If he hadn't made the effort, it would have been labeled as an overthrown ball and nobody would have thought twice

If he throws the ball where Taylor just runs...it could be deflected or picked with a good defensive play. Mariota threw it to a spot where only his wr could catch it and gave him ample room to do so considering he could catch the entire ball...with both hands.

And Mahomes or Rodgers would be getting credit for a 'perfect throw' because they threw it to the only spot their wr could catch it and the defender couldn't touch it. They'd also add another TD to their stats. The wr would get credit too for a nice catch. But this wasn't some crazy Beckham jr type catch.

The problem is you think everyone works from YOUR standard. People who coach and have played football don't share your standard.

If Taywan dove for the ball and couldn't reach it, why would it be on the wr? The standard is IF you get two hands on the ball. If he dives for the ball and can't reach it, the ball was over thrown...by definition. His effort isn't in question, his catching the ball is...because he dropped it.

If Taylor hadn't made the effort to dive for the ball and it landed 2 feet in front of him, he'd be getting chewed out for not putting in the proper effort....and for not catching the ball!

If you're not gonna dive for a TD catch, you don't belong in the NFL.

But he DID dive for the ball and he DID get both hands on it.

He just dropped it. End of story.

Which do you think is harder...making a diving catch that is not contested that you get both hands on (the entire football)...or making an accurate throw as a qb WHILE being crushed by a defensive player?

It's telling you think the easier thing is hard and should be excused for being 'hard'...while the harder one should be made regardless...no excuses!

When did Mariota get crushed during a throw? He either throws the ball or takes a hit with it in his hands. He has never showed the poise to stick in the pocket with an impending hit

This thread has spiraled into idiocy. You're splitting hairs over a single throw and who's responsible for a drop or a bad throw. Maybe it's both - it was a bad throw that should have been caught. Maybe it's neither - a great throw in the situation with an amazing attempt to catch it that just came up short. Who cares?

I know we're in the doldrums of the off-season, but surely there's more interesting things to talk about.

Here is my thing though. I don't think Taylor needed to dive for the ball. He actually doesn't even dive. He just falls down with the DB for some reason. He doesn't even extend his arms out to stretch his catching radius. I think he made the catch attempt harder than it had to be. Stay on your damn feet.
