Didn't the ball hit him in BOTH hands? Is that what you define as uncatchable?

Isn't the base definition of a catchable ball...a ball that you get two hands on? In HS we expect a wr to come down with EVERY pass they get two hands on.

This is the NFL. Who cares if anyone on gotitans can make the catch, why isn't Taylor making the catch and why are you defending him and not holding him accountable for HIS mistakes?

You guys are funny. Did you once say, well, I'll cut Mariota slack for making a bad throw here or there because he was under a ton of pressure and it was a hard play for him to make. Afterall, no one on gotitans could make that throw under pressure!!! Did you guys once say that?

No, you expect him to make plays even under difficult circumstances and catching the ball that you get tow hands doesn't rate that high in the difficult department.

You should be holding everyone accountable for their own mistakes!

That diving catch is going to be dropped a lot more often than caught. It is one of those catches that makes it on ESPN top 10 when someone makes it. To act like that was a routine catch is much more ridiculous.

So you make up stuff (what people on this board can do or have done) and then insult your own fantasy.

Speak for your own athleticism and skill level. That is the ONLY thing you know of the people on this board.

"For this exercise, I have excluded attempts that are miscommunications with the receiver, throwaways, and pass interference calls that are accepted by the offense."

So clearly there were more total attempts...but how many more is a ?

Where did you get that stat from?

And I notice you didn't answer a single question. So we'll try again with two simple questions.

Isn't the base definition of a catchable ball...a ball that you get two hands on? For context, my HS coach expected all wr's to come down with EVERY pass they get two hands on. That was my coaches take on it...and he played wr in the NFL!

Don't you think all players should be held accountable for their mistakes?

So here's my review of each throw. First my definitions. Perfect throw = perfectly on target. Good throw...not perfect because he didn't lead receiver or let him make much yac or something along those lines. Acceptable throw = got the ball to the wr who could get two hands on it. Bad throw...not good enough for two hands or over/under/missed throw.

Attempt 1 - Perfect throw and hit the wr in both hands. Bad catch. Dropped. No pressure.

Attempt 2 - Acceptable throw. Stocker doesn't run a lot of vertical routes so sometimes you just take the big play. Acceptable throw. Good catch. No pressure.

Attempt 3 - Bad throw - INT. Air mailed it over the wr. One play after getting injured, you have to question the playcall. No pressure.

Attempt 4 - Bad throw - just off target. It's a difficult throw going left and throwing left. Mariota should have stopped running for a second to gather himself and make a more accurate throw. No pressure.

Attempt 5 - Acceptable throw. Didn't lead receiver but also threw it away from coverage. Good catch. No pressure.

Attempt 6 - Acceptable throw. Slightly underthrown because he couldn't step up but got it to the wr. Taylor should have made the catch anyway but should have been PI. Under pressure. Extra note...Taylor looks like he has a tracking problem. In the slo-mo he tries to catch the ball before it gets to him resulting in him bouncing the ball off his face mask.

Attempt 7 - Perfect pass and catch. Some pressure.

Attempt 8 - Perfect pass...terrible drop by Jennings. No pressure.

Attempt 9 - Acceptable throw. Leads Taylor to outside where Taylor mis-tracks the ball by over compensating to his left and then tries to catch it over his right shoulder. Should have been caught for a td as the ball nearly hits him. All he has to do is track it into his hands. Missed catch by wr. Intense pressure.

Attempt 10 - Terrible decision by Mariota. Acceptable throw but the defender had leverage and we didn't have an obvious size mismatch. Should have been sacked at first, bad decision. Acceptable throw in terms of accuracy but good play by wr to help prevent the INT.

Attempt 11 - Good throw but bad luck. Taylor has to alter course slightly so he can't get to the ball having to adjust his route for the ref who should not have been there. Good throw and good job getting open by Taylor. Bad luck. No pressure.

    Attempt 12 - Bad throw...underthrown. No pressure.

Attempt 13 - Perfect throw...missed catch by Taylor again. Mariota leads him perfectly but instead of putting his hands out to catch it like he's supposed to, he tries top under-arm body catch it and the ball just goes right past him. Maybe be a tracking problem but also used the wrong catching technique. No pressure.

Attempt 14 - Perfect throw...dropped by Jennings again. No pressure.

Attempt 15 - Bad throw. Over threw the wr #17. No pressure.

Attempt 16 - Good throw. Slightly low or it would have been perfect. Good job by Mariota to escape the pocket and find the wr down field and made a good throw on the run. Pressured but not on throw.

Attempt 17 - Good throw. Sharpe didn't catch it. No pressure but not a clean pocket.

Attempt 18 - Perfect throw, great route, and great call. Good catch. No pressure.

Attempt 19 - Bad throw...overthrown. DB slowed wr in press. No pressure.

Attempt 20 - Perfect throw. Thrown before the break and put just the right arc and touch to have it drop into #17's hands before the sideline. No pressure.

Attempt 21 - Perfect throw. Perfect route. Good catch. No pressure.

Attempt 22 - Good throw. Leads wr back inside so won't get crushed by safety giving him an uncontested catch. Good catch and TD on YAC. No pressure.

Attempt 23 - Bad throw. Mariota over threw him. Would have preferred and acceptable just get it to him throw. Taylor did a great job getting wide open. No pressure.

Attempt 24 - Good throw. Slightly over-led the wr keeps this from a perfect throw. Good catch by Taylor who tracked the ball well and caught it with his hands. Some pressure.

Attempt 25 - Perfect throw and good pocket movement. Decent catch but Taylor needs to focus on hands only. Caught this against his shoulder pad. Not a lot of pressure Mariota moved away from and reset for a clean throw.

Attempt 26 - Bad throw. Under threw it as he was backing away from pressure and a defender diving towards his feet. This was a good decision this time (as opposed to the earlier attempt that was a bad decision). Gave our wr a chance as he had leverage...just a bit too short. Pressured.

Attempt 27 - Acceptable throw. Too much hang time. Titans seem to like this type of play to stretch the defense wide and then throw it inside between the cb and the S. Made this same throw to CD a few times. Too much hang time for a good throw. But again...dropped by Taylor who takes it off his facemask. No pressure.

Attempt 28 - Bad throw. Over threw Taylor but also was probably throwing it away as TT was double covered. No pressure.

    Mariota's Part
    9/28 Perfect throws
    5/28 Good throws
    6/28 Acceptable throws
    8/28 Bad throws
    1/28 INT's

    WR's Part
7/28 Dropped or Missed Catches by WR's

    OL and Mariota pocket movement
    21/28 No Pressure
    7/28 Pressured

The line did pretty well as we were also in max protect a lot. Mariota missed a couple of big ones...but the biggest culprit were the drops or missed catches by the wr's. 25% is a huge number for wr's not catching a ball that hits them in 2 hands and the addition of Humphries and Brown is a clue the Titans know this too.

As far as #1 is concerned, I don't think a WR failing to make a diving highlight reel catch is a "bad drop". It was indeed put in a good spot, but the WR would have had to catch it just a few feet from the the ground with his entire body perpendicular to it. A bad drop is what should have been a routine catch. That was not. It hit him in the hands because he dove for it.

Yep. I think Gut was pretty spot on except for that one pass.At the very least it was a bad decision to make that pass with the coverage like it was and the only chance of a reception was a diving highlight reel catch. To call that a drop is hard for me to buy. If anything it was a great play by Taylor to even be able to touch the ball, much less catch it.
