Season gets through and the talks start happening about whose needing a tackle he starts seeing $ signs. Plus I believe he hasn't lost his talent just that he wasnt healthy/fit enough coming into the season last year.

Then we tag him and it’s still cheaper than his 5th year option while giving him all the risk. No way the team is gonna sign him long term without seeing him play at that high level.

Same with Mariota. Until he shows a high enough level of play...he’s not getting the big contract!

Our fans are ignorant....this is ONLY about Money.....5th year option would place him toward the top for RT.

Yeah it really needs to be noted that the 5th year option on a top 10 draft choice is essentially the same as the Franchise tag. We can always tag him at the end of the year if we don't need to tag Mariota or Byard. This is completely a money thing, and not a reflection on how we view his worth.

Looking at the numbers from an article I read. In 2020 Lewan is slated for 18mil, Saffold 14mil, and if Conk’s option was picked up,13mil. Thats 25% of the cap space invested in just 3 OL. To put that in perspective, the Patriots entire Oline accounts for 12.5%. Add in Mariota’s potential extension, KB’s long term deal, Henry’s future, along with other expiring contracts they we may want to resign and the move makes total sense from a financial stand point. If Conk ever got hurt this season and couldn’t pass his physical next season for whatever reason, the Titans would be on the hook for that money regardless. Let the season play out and make him earn his paycheck whether that’s for the Titans or someone else.

That's only $4M more than what we spend on the entire line today

Dallas floats over $50M this year for their line.

Conklin was great before his injuries, and average after.
It's possible, but unlikely that he will return to his pre injury dominance.

A few years ago, ESPN developed a next gen stat to evaluate linemen.
According to this stat, last year, Conklin got an "82", with "81" being the league average.

Even after injury, he is plenty good enough to keep, just not good enough for $12 million a year.

That’s a ton of money especially when 2-3 take up a good chunk of that. My point was referring to the Titans salary cap going forward and potential big payouts coming. Titans are gonna have roughly 35-40 mil next season. The uncertainty of him playing at a high level due to his injury makes the decision smart not to pay him especially when you have other big deals potentially looming.
