They weren’t wrong. Can’t stop a speed rush to save his life, or his QBs.

 

Here's my thing about Marcus... I like him as a person; and when he is on, he is great... I just do not think this team should invest 20+ million/yr in ANY QB until they start to value passing more. It would be a ridiculous waste of capitol. Only 1 team called more Run, Run, Pass play sequences than us... Only 1 team attempted less Passes than us... We ran more times per game this yr than we did under Mularkey. If this is indeed the offense they want to run; it makes no sense to invest heavily in a QB. ANY QB, not just Marcus.

One of the biggest mistakes made in all of sports last yr: Coming out of the season STILL not knowing if Marcus can carry the team Passing. That is on the Coaching Staff IMO. I like Vrabel. However, instead of building an offense around our RBs; & coddling Marcus, he needs to throw him to the wolves. We have to find out THIS yr (Should've last yr) if Marcus can be the man... I think we all know the answer. However, until the team finally let's him sink/swim PASSING we will not KNOW.

 

It makes sense to treat this year like an interview. I want him long term, but I want to see how he now fits first.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet - why not see what we can get for him? With one year left, I'd much rather get something for him now, instead of just getting a final year out of him. Surely there's a team out there that didn't get the offensive line help they needed/wanted in the draft and are still looking for help.

OR, since you didn't pick up his option, make him play OG this year even if he doesn't want to. He he can't just half @$$ it out there because it's a contract year for him, even if that contract isn't from the Titans, he will want to play well to earn a big pay day. If you start Lewan, Saffold, Jones, Conklin, Kelly, that's the best starting 5 on the team. That also gives Nate Davis a year to develop. If Conklin plays lights out, you can offer him a contract as a guard. If he doesn't want him you can let him walk, or tag him and trade him.

 

How many times does JR have to say Conklin is not playing Guard?

 

Not picking up his option changes a lot. It shows us that their faith in him isn't as strong as it once was.

EDIT: Also, I don't think J-Rob ever said "Conklin is not playing guard" I think he said "We see him as a tackle" which are two different things. They obviously see him differently now by not picking up his option.

 

Not picking up option is smart money wise. He isn’t worth the option price, we could just resign him for a lot cheaper.
