Titans Decline Conklin's 5th Year Option

Yeah I never understood why people don’t understand this concept. $30 million to Mariota and Byard and $12 million option on Conk. I’m no math major but I think that adds up to the $42 million in cap space for 2020

Because Mariota is making over $20 mil this year. If we give him 22 mil next year, that's only a 2 mil increase. Still have 40 left.

 

Good point on Marcus but after a Byard extension there wouldn’t be 40 left. More like 25. Conk’s option would have pulled it down to $12-13

 

When Mary is gone we won’t need five first round picks on the OL. Let him walk and find a competent RT instead of paying Conklin LT money.

 

Depends how the contract is structured but yeah, could be. I think Logan Ryan is going to be released next year. Add $10 mil back.

 

DaQuan Jones too. Might be able to do better with a decent rookie in that role. $7 mil.

 

I think only the Byard extension is a given at this point. If Mariota is average this season, I'd rather have a rookie QB on a rookie scale contract and extra cap space than an injury riddled average QB for 20+ million.

Conklin has shown he can be one of the best tackles in the league. I'm hoping he can bounce back this year.
