And that's always? That must make things depressing in Connecticut.

Again, you ignore context! How do you know if it makes Mariota look good when you don't know what's driving the stat?

Here's a simple question. Do coaches watch game film to judge how their unit is doing and holds them accountable for every play based on what they do on that play?

Or do they look at some advanced metric and say...hey, we averaged 3yds separation for the year...we are therefore the best wr corp in the NFL and need no practice. Take a vacation til game 1!!!

Coaches don't use these stats other than to bring up interesting info in a broadcast. Plus, they need to give a reason why they are paying these analytics ppl all this money. And I'll give you a hint...a lot of it is for the fans!!!

But in terms of what it means to the player evaluations...not much. Teams with more advanced analytics departments will look at where they rank and the raw numbers for every stat...but they won't judge whether those stats or ranking are good or bad without the context...because that is the most important thing.

A while back, if I remember correctly, PFF gave ARod an avg or below avg grade on a game he threw I think 5 TD's. If you just look at a metric...Rodgers throws 5 TD's, you'd think it's one of his best games ever. But if you look inside the film, you might draw a different conclusion. Now I don't agree with PFF's grade either, but the concept is the right place to start from. You might try it.

Semantics I guess..the injuries are concerning but I wouldn't say always hurt. I guess I'm hoping for an improved year from him rather than focus on the negatives, I hope he proves alot of people wrong.

I agree with it being a make or break year for him, so I'm hoping for it being a make one.

I'll let others spew the hate.

You're getting wildly out of context here. Every NFL player is hurt most weeks of the season. What's your definition of hurt?

Did he play very well in many games in which he was hurt? Yes. Did he have some bad games when he was hurt? Yes.

Unless he is out half the season, this is a pointless argument. He's gonna do it this year or he won't...whether he's healthy or not.

Were you disparaging McNair for being hurt a lot...he was hurt all the time too. Or were you impressed that he played thru a lot of injuries?

When you look at an injury report and see Marcus on there nearly every week that constitutes the "always hurt" comment.

Well, I begin to think that you rarely watch any football games and entirely base your argument on stats. Useless ones mostly.

    Wrong!

    Wrong!

If you actually WATCHED the games, you'd know these are wrong...as is your conclusion that Mariota WON'T throw the ball unless there is 3 yds of separation.

Try again. And this time, before you repeat your same incorrect/biased opinions, you might want to read my post. You might LEARN how to draw the proper conclusions. You can NOT tell how often or by how much a wr is open on ANY given play based on an average.

You don't even know WHY the stat is what it is...let alone know whether it's a good thing or a bad thing...let alone whether Mariota is to blame for it or not.

Let's try an easy question. If Julian Edelman has an average separation of 5yds during a a game. Is that a good or bad thing? Secondly, does this mean Tom Brady won't throw the ball to Edelman UNLESS he has 5 yards of separation?

    Bad Tom Brady!!! LOL

The reason he has 5 yards of seperation is because of how well Brady leads his receivers. He throws them open where as Mariota throws passes to keep his receivers from getting YAC. I am beginning to suspect he does it on purpose because surely he can't be so bad at it that it is an accident.
