I'd say the difference is that Suh is a bit better against the run and wants to play on one year contracts. If we think we can get 3 good years out of McCoy, then you sign him to a 5 year contract with the idea that he likely gets cut after year 3. He gets his sb and we get some cap relief. Signing Suh to 1 yr contracts doesn't give you any cap relief but mitigates risk since if he doesn't play well, you simply don't resign him. Plus, if we don't re-sign him and someone else does, we could get a 3rd round comp pick for him.

I'd be happy with either but I'd imagine we'd have to give up a draft pick for McCoy. So it's really a what do you want and what do you want to give up. Money should be about the same so it's really a risk/reward situation. Give up a pick and a longer contract for McCoy and get some cap relief...or go get Suh and get no cap relief but can walk away from him at any time and likely get a comp pick when he goes.

 

I think a 1 year deal is by far our best option. We have a lot of money to dish out to our center pieces next year. Can't afford to have a 33 year old on the books for 12 million+

 

McCoy's contract is currently through 2021 but essentially they are one year deals as their is no prorated sb if we cut him so essentially we could cut him at any time and have no dead cap space. Could save even more money if we gave him a backloaded longer term contract.

Plenty of ways to make it work.

 

I think I'd prefer McCoy tbh
Suh is good but he didn't really come until late in the year last year

 

Another guy I would target is Darius Philon, played well for Chargers in a limited role

 

Gimme Suh or GTFO! I like McCoy but don't think he'd beast next to Casey like Suh would.

 

I really wanted suh last year, but I've soured on him a bit .mccoy would be nice . Justin Houston is still my last dream signing though.
