Couple of things that I think haven’t been discussed, or at least fully.

First, we have an apparently improved GM, albeit average IMO. JRob is making an equal number of good and bad choices with the EXTENSIVE draft capital he was given. So overall, we’re better personnel-wise than we’ve been.

Second, I think we have a REALLY good head coach. Not an offensive genius HC, but a good OVERALL head coach that players, assistants and fans respect. He is DEFINITELY about accountability. And he is will to change his course if its clear what he’s doing isn’t working. And that has been a major change in our coaching.

Third, Mariota is a decent enough QB- WHEN HE PLAYS. He’s not stellar, but can win games late by making plays. He wasn’t worth a #2 overall pick- but that’s past. When he was picked we had a moron GM so who knows if any trade was possible. And it IS foolish to think that having so many coaching (and system) changes during his development has not had a NEGATIVE impact on the quality of his play. Mariota is a character guy who behaves like a professional. He is NOT durable. And we’ve seen enough to know that is what we can expect. We need to extend him at a reasonable rate and draft a replacement project QB. We should assessing his trade value and pull the trigger if we can get a deal that recovers 80% of a #2 overall pick.

Fourth- the D needs more work. We don’t have the luxury to dump more high end draft or FA capital into the QB. We need better pass rushing and/or a couple of disruptive DL. We have to shut down Luck and Watson or we’re screwed. And we have to rush both of them better than we have been to have a chance.

I think this team will make the playoffs next year and likely get into the second round if we can do the above. Mariota should be moved if we can recover 80% of our investment in him and have a durable veteran replacement that has a strong arm. This team’s success or failure won’t entirely depend on exceptional QB passing regardless of who is throwing the ball. We can win with the system we’re running now. Getting a durable veteran that can throw an accurate deep ball would only help.

Agree with a lot of what you said, but I'm curious how you would even plan to trade him.

I don't see any point to trading him before this season, that would be giving up on the season entirely, and to me there's no one in this years draft that makes moving him worthwhile. His contract is up after this season, would you say that we should franchise him to trade him? That would be very risky because he's really not worth the Franchise price for QB's, and I don't see many teams wanting to spend a lot of capital on him AND sign him to a long term deal.

A lot of people assume the anti-Mariota crowd are rooting for him to fail. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. I hope he has 35 TD’s and single digit INT’s and completely balls out next year. He’s a high character guy and great face for the franchise (which I think is blurring some people’s perception of him, but that’s a whole other discussion). But that’s not likely to happen based on the play we’ve seen the past two seasons. Throw out all the excuses you want, but your franchise QB can’t have 11TD seasons. It just can’t happen.

Not defending mett, but hes the best QB on the Express by a good margin. Hes not 3rd string, hes hurt. I live in Memphis and have been following the team closely.

This is my exact sentiment. I've been a fan and supporter of his for years, but it's time to face the music and look at his body of work compared to his peers. Unfortunately he just doesn't match up, and I don't see a significant reason for there to be anything that's going to change that.

Yeah, but in fairness Ramsey is a huge Titans homer.

We could trade him to the Skins if things start off ugly in 2019. They may only look for a backup since Alex Smith is on the shelf most of 2019. By mid season he would only account for $10M which the Skins could then afford...
