You ever watch the Patriots play? If not watch them in the Super Bowl. You’ll see what I’m talking about. Again, I’ve posted this entire dialogue to you before in another thread. Feel free to go check it out if you want further clarification.

As difficult as it is to believe, I've seen Tom Brady and the Patriots play before. I agree that he's in a good system which helps him out, but saying that he doesn't throw receivers open is just wrong. His ball placement is one of his best traits.

I know your point is that he gets a lot of open receivers, but we never got to see this offense as it was originally designed. I think that we would have been happy with the results had we not lost nearly everything required to make it work. Against Miami, Mariota hit on 2 downfield shots to Taylor and Stocker. He had another open shot to Sharpe, but that's when the tingles took over, and we had to basically start from scratch. We couldn't run the same plays. We basically had to condense the field at that point, which made it tougher to scheme players open.

Mariota has a different skill set that Brady. The system wasn't the issue, it's that he and the offense in general lost the ability to execute it

Mariota definitely isn’t threading the needle. Also, while he makes some good throws, he’s also thrown some insanely bad throws to guys wide open and missed them. I think this comes down to vision and pocket presence, and he has clearly struggled there.

No but coupled with a high completion percentage it does indicate that he a) doesn’t throw unless a receicer is open by more than league average and b) he doesn’t throw it away often when he sees nobody open. Those combined are a pretty goid indicator that he takes more sacks than the average.

Mariota and Brady’s skillset isn’t a different as you’d think. Brady doesn’t have the strongest arm and excels at making quick, short throws. That’s how most would paint Mariota to this point in his career. Brady just finds the open guy against the zone or hits his RB in the flat. There aren’t a ton of difficult throws Tom has to make because he’s so good mentally.

Brady is a totally different QB mentally that Mariota, sure. Brady has a proven track record and is HOF’er so yes they are a perfect comparison. However, how do you beat Brady? Play man to man coverage, and get pressure on him. He gets happy feet after he’s been hit a time or 2. Sound familiar?

I agree with you that we never really got to see LaFluer’s offense in full stride this year because of all the injuries.

All of that to say we know what Mariota’s weaknesses are and we know what his strengths are. How do you negate the blitz? Short quick throws - creating mismatches. That helps with protection and Mariota’s poor pocket awareness.

There’s no way to totally mimic what they do but their offense is best suited for our personnel IMO. They have a power run game as well. I don’t feel like we’ve really had a system like that yet.

Mariota really doesn't have much of a short game. Not even on the same planet as Brady. He can hit a WR screen and check down, but so can every other QB in the league. He's not quick enough on the draw or good at reading defenses yet. It's why he takes so many sacks against the blitz.
He has to see everything. He doesn't anticipate well enough.

His best attribute is his PA game. Trust me, we aren't hiding a prolific passer in a system which is a poor fit. He's got to get much better before we can come close to putting a Brady-esque workload on his plate.

    Lmao what?

Mariota isn’t quick enough on the draw? How he did he rub all of those RPO’s in college then?

You’re just spewing nonsense now. Mariota doesn’t have a short game lol ok buddy

I highlighted the key part of this statement.

Either way, RPOs are far more similar to play action than Brady's Dink and Dunk game. He's making one read. I've already said that he's good when he's only got one read and there is plenty of space to put the ball, just like in PA. He'd actually be a quality player if he weren't too fragile to run them, because they fit his skill set perfectly

See this is why I asked you if you’ve seen the Patriots play. They run a lot of play action. 4th most in the NFL this year.
