For the record I'm ok with the hire.
I'm all in on an OC that knows the team and what to call that will play to the players/teams strengths, and he appears to be a student of opponents' game films (maybe some game planning per defensive weakness and exploitation of those weakness EACH week rather than "run our system till it works" mentality); but, and this is a BIG BUT, it's highly likely we see another first year play caller stumbling through the year with his calls. I just think some unreasonable expectations from him knowing the players, seeing them play under different systems, and keeping the terminology from the previous system (like this will somehow negate that he's never ran an offense).

Hopefully he IS innovative and can adjust his game plan to counter in real time, and if he does have problems with in game adjustments maybe Vrabel might be able to help him adjust to a defensive with his insights into D's (and not micro mange). Not to mention the questions of can the offense actually executes his plays and can players actually play the majority of the season like professionals vs spurts of showing their potential (totally different thread topics)

The most likely scenario is that we feel the effects once again of having a first year play caller. I hope I wrong and we aren't underwhelmed, but history says I'm not.

He claims that he and Billy Volek had final decision on draft picks?

Regardless. Calico was also horse collared by Roy Williams which was the play (along with TO) that had the rule put in place. That play basically ended his career. A scout can't predict that obviously.

Well if the Titans had a backup QB running their draft no wonder they had some lean years, although my guess he is exaggerating or you miss heard him. He might have recommended Calico, but there is no way a scouting assistant was handed the keys to the draft.

Maybe it will be good having someone without an ego thinking they know wtf they are doing More willing to adjust and stick to something when it's working. Enough of these stubborn, "smartest guy in the room", "I've had success so listen to me" mentalities

After having some time to think about it, I can't help but to agree with you. As others have said, maybe the continuity factor will be a big help to Mariota and the offense as well. If guys like Lewan, Walker, etc support the hire, I guess I will too.
