    Yep. It doesnt make sense.

And, if they are tanking (which, they arent), they both need to be fired for being losers.

Yeah, it's especially ridiculous considering this organization hasn't ever accomplished jack crap. I mean that one time ever we were in a super bowl... A kid that was born that day will be old enough to drink In a year.

I didn't read through 14 pages of comments but I'll say this...Lafleur was pretty bad as a play caller and over-hyped IMO. I don't know how many 2nd and 10 dives or draws we did this year that went for 1 or 2 yards to set up 3rd and 8. Or better yet once the passing game was getting into a rhythm we'd go back to runs on 1st and 2nd down setting up another 3rd and long situation only to see Mariota get blown up on a sack. It was quite annoying and I could have been caught several times yelling at the TV.

I think we need to run a combo of outside zone runs and the murlarkey smashmouth plays. I think we have the line to do both as demonstrated in 2015-2017 and late this year with Henry gaining steam. We should keep the west coast passing attack but need to take more frequent shots down field to open things up some more. I'd also like to see the pistol formation come back here and there.

I hope Smith brings some of the good bits from offenses he's been apart of the last few years. Good thing is he can pull from 3-4 different playbooks to get some plays that hopefully make Mariota more consistent or at least what Mariota feels most comfortable running. I'll give the guy a couple years to show some promise but to me there were really only 2 options for OC him or Pat O'Hara. Never really thought we would look outside to install yet another new offense.

So I have been reading all the player and coach/gm comments, as well as outsider comments on Smith. Beddingfield, who can be pretty critical of the team and play given his time spent with the organization, seems to think this was a good hire as well. So with all that I will wait and watch.

Fact is Smith has been with the team in the coaching position about as long as anyone has, which says a lot about his abilities given how frequently new coaches blow up their staffs upon entry.

I was excited about LaFleur...got caught up in the hype of him being a student of McVay and all that hype. Turns out I think LaFleur was used to riding in the passenger seat next to McVay, relative to being a play caller, and when he got to TN he was handed the keys...realized this car had a stick and spent the year jumping and jerking and stalling the dang thing because its not easy.

Will see if he can do it with Rogers as his QB...if he cant well then we can imagine what our 2nd year with him would have been like.

Smith may offer more "continuity" than another year of Lefluer would have to be honest.

He will be able to take all of the NFL offenses that MM is familiar with (Whiz, Malarkey, Lefluer) and mold it into one O. Taking the things that MM liked and did well in each.

As for this being a "lazy hire", I dont think so. From all accounts, Smith is very well respected and was kept/promoted by 3 different HCs. So 3 different regimes saw something in him.

Lefleur was also trying to take Smith to GB to be his OC as well, so he must have seen something in him as well.

We all like the splashy hires, but truth be told, those have a pretty high failure rate as well. I am starting to like the Smith hire.

We all loved the lefleur hire, and he ended up worse than robiskie (granted we had a lot of injuries)

Fun fact; Billy Volek told Beddingfield to draft Tyrone Calico, does that change your opinion of him any?

Maybe because Deflippo was a miserable failure twice as an oc

Beddingfield was a scout, but not the scouting director or director of college scouting when Calico was drafted. I highly doubt Volek and Beddingfield made the call to draft Calico, but even if they did, it was approved by several people far higher up the chain than Beddingfield was at that point. But also, Gil Brandt had the Titans taking Calico in the 1st round that year, so it wasn't considered a reach where they took him. Some guys just don't workout for whatever reason.
