Xmas Songs

Where do you live?

 

I know it doesn't fit the criteria of the original post but Trans Siberian Orchestra has some great Christmas stuff. Being a musician and working in the music industry, their version of "O Come All Ye Faithful/O Holy Night" with their rock sound and electric guitars are about as good as it gets for me. Their album "Christmas Eve and Other Stories" might be the best Christmas album of all time.

 

I gotta say that if I have to assault my senses with a christmas song, it would be Bing Crosby's "Mele Kalikimaka", and here's why:
1- there's none of that icky praise and worship stuff. I find religion stupid and offensive, especially this one because it directly affects me via the legislative arena. This song is fairly non-deniminational aside from calling the holiday by name.
2- I never want to experience snow again, so I can't support anything jingling or wintery. I do occasionally get to see some snow in top of the mountain in my front yard, but I'm still in rubbaslippahs.
3- it's fun to listen to the alcohol imparing Bing's sense of time in this recording. Dude is definitely not on top of the beat.

On the negative side, I do experience enough fake Hawaiiana without this tune, so it drops a couple of points in that respect.

 

If I had to hear xmas on loop for an hour Id hate xmas music

you really appreciate it when its not forced on you, every other song is pretty good IMO
