This has always been my argument about NFL debates: stats are worthless in this, a team sport with a HUGE list of variables. Sure, it makes for a dull forum to acknowledge that but I avoid opining on these types of debates because they cannot be taken seriously.

 

Yea and they say you have to watch the quiet ones. Bear in mind as well he's had 3 injuries with us and had different management every year not exactly the stability a qb is looking for. If he doesn't get the offer he's looking for his agent is gonna tell him to hold out. We ain't gonna be top priority.

Why would he leave a staff that's here to stay only to learn another new system somewhere else if he's looking for stability?! Lol

 

Your right about not being able to use a singular device to compare qbs, but you can compare them. The thing that makes these debates most difficult is peoples ability to use all the different variables "accurately".

 

4th year QB shouldnt have to answer so many looming questions about his ability to play QB at a high level. Que the laundry list of perceived reasons why.

Props to Lefluer for building a much better fit Offense for the QB. Making a huge difference.

Comparing him to VY and McNair is pretty outrageous tho. Different eras of football entirely. This game has madden numbers now on the reg compared to Air McNair days.

The thing you can compare with them all is their ability to drag teams to wins in some incredible situations. McNair did it, VY while a less than average QB had “it” at times... Mariota also has “it”. Hell, you could argue Locker had some “it” factor from time to time.

But whatever that “it” is... isn’t often enough to get us over the hill. The QB also has to consistently be able to play with accuracy and decisiveness. That’s what everyone is wanting to see week in and week out.

 

Well fractured fibula, ankle damage and nerve damage in his throwing arm to name a few. Also he's got to rely on jrob and co to keep the current staff around and let's be honest, the new trend for HC is young and disciplined and la fleur is renowned for being a qb whisperer. Vrabs is a def coach through and through and looking like a solid HC but without La fleur were back to running 3 and out. I'd keep la fleur to mariota any day and I like Marcus soo much but offensive coaches that coordinate to every game are limited. So i think Matt ain't gonna be with us for long unfortunately...
