LeFleur doesn't have the players for his scheme..

Ive said it before and Ill say it again, the idea of Exotic Smash mouth wasn't the problem, it was the play calling the killed us at times.

 

Well, to be honest dude has never called plays before in his life. Let’s not act terribly surprised.

 

We saw that our offense did enough with Gabbert and reserve tackles, shredded a good defense with Mariota, yet now he's useless. We saw the same thing in Mularkey's offense. Maybe Mariota is just extremely easy to scheme against, once teams have a good grasp of the system.

 

Hes easy to rattle, thats for sure.

If he smells pressure from the middle he bails, he needs to climb the ladder better and not always run outside, his blockers cant keep up with him, and hes on his own.

 

Here's my thing, if they don't fit the scheme then alter the scheme to fit them instead of trying to push a round peg through a square hole.

 

No, I totally disagree with this line of thinking. The Titans have the players, the problem is there is a downside to LaFleur's scheme, it doesn't work with all teams. On Sunday it was like trying to put a block in a round hole, it's not going to fit. Obviously, there is no plan B and that's the problem. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to go figure that there are oiutstanding defensive lines in the NFL that will wreak havoc on quarterbacks . What worked the game before may not work today, right? Therefore you must adjust your scheme of things to make up for the strengths of the team you are playing or you will look bad. The Titans looked bad, but you can't blame the players for that. This is squarely on the shoulders of the offensive coordinator.

Last year I watched a game where Goff was sacked about as many times as Mariota. It's one thing to think it's just a fluke sack and that it's not going to happen again but when the OC thinks his scheme is the key to all defenses he's not only wrong but he's mentally retarded as well. He needed to change his scheme with the addition of 2 blocking tight ends and two blcoking running backs but he was just cock sure of his playbook and look what happened. The OC definitely made the Titans look bad. I've lost confidence in him and think he should step down. This was an absolute embarrassment no question about it.

 

Play calling is not the reason they gave up a ton of sacks

 

play calling can slow down a fierce rush, or take advantage of games that a front 7 is playing. Getting the ball out in the quick game like against the Texans is all play calling, where was that?

 

I don't think that's true. If so, cry me a river. There's talent on this roster. Figure it out and adjust.
