Mariota went back in the pocket about 5 yards instead of 10 which brought the defense on him rather quickly and that no doubt played a role in why he was sacked so many times. However he would have been sacked a whole lot less had the offensive line not formed an impenetrable wall which trapped him in the pocket and virtually wrecked his running game. The defensive ends went around the wall leaving Mariota no place to go, he was confined to a very small space\, it was laughable. Dion Lewis was trapped in tall timber too, I'd see him prancing around not doing anything. . Not once did I see a tight end blocking, not once did I see two tight ends. Not once did I see two running backs. I see 4 receivers running a route and Mariota having only 2 seconds to pass the ball. This really has nothing to do with Mariota except not going back far enough from the line of scrimmage to pass. There was no plan B, simple.

 

Our offense is even worse.

 

What i saw on Sunday worries me. LaFluer and company have no figured out how to be consistent with Mariota. Mariota belongs in an uptempo quick pass offense with playaction. We have traits of all of those in our gameplan but its inconsistent.

We need to run a Houston Texan offense that they run. Misdirections and movement. Tell Mariota to RUN if nothing is open. And the whole but he will get hurt argument is no longer valid. Him getting tackled is no different than him taking a sack...which happened 11 times.

Teams are stacking the box because they know we are too predictable lately. Look at the Jags and Eagles game. Look how well the play calling was enough to win. Drops hurt us but it was still efficent enough to open up alot. The last 2 weeks we look like a different team. They must get back to using the entire field instead of trying to stick whatever gameplan they have.

If we do that this offense can finish in the top 15 no less. If we dont we winning 6 games if lucky

 

Missed the game, but I almost feel like I will be able to describe it.

Most passes headed toward TE and RB
No Shotgun and no tempo
Overuse of Lewis
No passes beyond 10 yards.
Not enough use of Henry.
Little to no spread offense.
Probably a lot tight formations.

And I still say, the answers are right there for the taking. Just let him run shotgun like he does at the end of games and where he as been most successful. It has worked.

 

Agreed with everything you said. This was pathetic in every sense of the word. Totally inexcusable.

I am convinced your attraction to Mariota is clouding your vision.

Like Abc pointed out a few posts later, stats prove what I am saying so apparently you are the one who has never watched a game.
