I was terrified the year he came out in the draft that we were going to take him. I didn't think he was a franchise QB, but he is a good backup. The best one we've had since O'Donnell? Or maybe KFC, does he count?

I mean I don't know about that. He played one game. Let's wait and see. KFC the ultimate best back up QB

I think when your backup QB is super bowl MVP, you win the award for best backup, no question.

Yeah, I was questioning if KFC counts since he eventually became the permanent starter. It's sad how bad our backups have been pretty much the whole time, with a few exceptions.

Generally only slightly worse than our starters.. but that’s not saying much.
But cassel and mettenberger did look like they didn’t belong in the NFL at all. Oh yeah, and Rusty Smith.

I believe that we may have beaten Miami if we had started Gabbert right out of the gate. We scored a whopping 3 points, had 2 TOs and a missed TD with Mariota and Lewan/Walker. Gabbert is limited, but he is no less consistent, and his play selection and route distributions usually leaves less opportunity for an INT (though there is always opportunity with Flota's oft errant throws). He matched his Houston output in one half without Lewan and Walker for much of his time.

i know you know this but...

we drove down the field twice with mariota out there, and only didnt get points the 2nd time because of going for it on 4th at the goal line. the only reason the turnovers happened is because of the injury and happened promptly after he was hurt (literally the next 2 passes)

we do not stand a better chance with gabbert. period. UNLESS of course, mariota is still not full strength. but when he is there is ZERO question we are better with him in there.
