Except that doesn’t make you throw behind and over receivers.

There's no disputing his ball placement. He knows it, we know it, he has to be better soon. It took the Rams the 1st month for the offense to gell and Goff to look better so lets wait and see. I think he will be better as the season progresses. He has to or see ya...

I wouldn’t even be giving a second thought except it’s how he was throwing all TC.

Lots of moving parts but I hear you. 1. totally new change of his footwork and throwing mechanics 2. New offense.

Oh I agree. I was always backing him but have grown quite frustrated with him. Early on everyone raved about his short to mid range accuracy and mobility. But I don't see it, mobility a bit but pocket presence is ****. I'm slowly falling off the Mariota train tbh. It's fair to give him the whole year in the new system to get going with the offense., but unless he really steps up, it'll be a 1st round QB next draft IMO.

If Mariota is even an average QB this year, we're not drafting a QB with a 1st round pick.

This is 100% correct, whether or not fans like it. We already picked up his option so he's here for another year unless they downright cut him.

Another reason he's here next year is the crop of QBs in the 2019 draft vs the 2020 draft. The 2020 draft is loaded and 2019 doesn't look to have anyone that is a franchise QB just yet. The guy I like the most - Will Grier was just compared to Andy Dalton and AJ McCarron by an NFL scout I heard on the radio.

We may have to suffer for 2 more years with MM8 and if he doesn't improve, at least knowing we will be picking near the top of the draft again and that J-Rob, not Ruston will be making the selection makes me feel better about it.

I've been wondering since we hired LaFleur and I heard Dan Orlovsky on the radio talk about how long it takes to learn this system and become comfortable with it - why is such a steep learning curve necessary? D.O. said that it took Goff until week 6 last year until he looked comfortable in the new scheme. So my question is, why are we potentially sacrificing 6 games of our season just because a scheme takes a long time to learn? Doesn't it make more sense to simplify things and make it easier on everyone, so they're all comfortable when the season starts?

I'm glad we're done with exotic smashmouth but I find it completely unnecessary that this system be so difficult to pick up. Why not just grab some of MM8's favorite plays from his career from Oregon, Whisenhunt, and Mularkey and use the best of those to make it easier?

Very valid questions indeed. I also questioned why the 1st team offense didn't play a lot more during the preseason games? Even if they were going against 3rd string cupcakes it would have still been beneficial for the squad to build confidence, chemistry and get the timing down.
