Pre-Game Thread Preseason Game 3: Titans @ Steelers

It is concerning. I wouldn't say it's his deep ball, but all intermediate/deep sideline throws. I know that his old coaching staff weren't the sharpest tools in the shed, but he's been incredibly inconsistent to awful at making these throws, and so much worse than he is at throwing to targets in the middle of the field.

Another issue is the pocket awareness. We've seen young QBs like Watson, 2nd year Wentz out of a freaking FCS school, and the new batch of guys like Mayfield, Darnold, and Josh Allen(minus that one awful play) all show ad lib ability and presence in the pocket that we still have yet to see from Mariota. It would increase his ceiling considerably if he were able to take advantage of his athleticism, and make throws outside of the pocket (which would make him more accurate at these sideline throws).

Some guys who have watched the progress of many QBs in this system are very optimistic about Mariota. But I hope that we see growth from him personally, not just seeing him in a better system.

 

I think Marcus will adjust and be much better in this system, but no doubt, he needs to clean up some of those throws etc. He is shaky at times for sure.

 

I assume you are talking about the play that Corey Davis ran the wrong route and the announcer explicitly said "Davis and Mariota not on the same page there."

This Steeler D is pretty real bad. Big Ben has yet to play in the preseason, right? Let's see if he shows any rust against us, or torches our D like everyone else(Fitz wild throws notwithstanding).

I really would like to see our defense look good especially the secondary. Its a new offense so I still expect some timing issues but last 2 games the secondary has been bad. I know its been mostly 3rd team guys but we're getting torched.

i know it's a new system but i want to see conviction in Mariota's body language and him stepping into throws . I hate to compare but Deshaun Watson is just so natural and fluid in his movements . I want to see Mariota how he looked in year two , with rhythm , quick release on slants and short passes and accurate deep ball . Also i need to see the O line living up to its reputation somewhat.

 

I want to see Henry and Davis get going. Would also like to see a turnover from one of our top 3 corners. Will be watching Vacarro closely as well.

I'm not worried about MM8, growing pains in this offense will be normal. IMO the running game is most important right now. Everything works off PA in this system.

 

I'd like to see Butler on the field with Evans. Also a big play from Davis like the one Taylor had last week. Didn't see it mentioned but the game is featured on NFL network.
