Is Mariota making a grave mistake?

    Like I said before, the gains of ditching the brace aren't enough to risk losing him

    I know anytime you and I agree its gotta be true, let's just hope when the bullets are real in preseason he wises up

    I would absolutely hate hate hate to be sitting here in a few months saying I told you so to the people who dont know enough to be concerned with this news.

    This kind of reminds me of one of my first threads about benching Eugene Amano. 90% claimed coaches knew what they were doing and I shouldn't have an opinion because I'm just some guy on a message board. Well howd that turn out...

    Is there any science behind high mobility knee braces preventing destructive knee injury?

    Someone who cares too much about this type of thing should look it up.

    Reminds me of how you kept using your injury knowledge to debate with me that Jake Locker wasn't brittle and his foot injury was going to be OK.

    A sprain/strain are degrees of tear in the muscle, mostly microscopic but can collectively be visible if severe enough. You can pull or tear nearly any muscle in your body.

    It occurs as a result of a massive/sudden contraction of the muscle whereby the contraction of the muscle exceeds the capacity to move the bones/body part it is designed to move. Rapid acceleration effort that exceeds the muscle's structural integrity to withstand the resisting force against it. Being "lean" in terms of weight (eg- body fat %) actually produces less weight for the muscle to move, hence has a less deleterious effect than being heavy. The muscle must be strong enough to withstand what the mind is commanding it to do- so that means good conditioning (which ADDS some weight) and the muscle must be properly "warmed up" (stretched and hydrated properly) to avoid the injury.

    Basically, hamstring injuries are a result of inadequate conditioning for the demands a person places on that muscle. Skipping workouts, OTA, and going soft on conditioning and warm-ups are the major causative factors of pulled hamstrings. Diet and nutrition has an effect on conditioning as well.

    And these "I TOLD YOU SO" warnings are ridiculous. Nearly EVERY athlete pushes their bodies to the point of injury and recovery throughout the season. That is why they are professional athletes. Mariota WILL be injured to some degree this season, as will nearly every other player. We'll hear only about the ones that require recovery that effects performance in the subsequent (or remaining portion of the current ) game they play in.

    FTR EVERY QB should be in a knee brace, they're too important not to be out there for you every week.

    I mean there is a reason you see Brady, Luck, and others wearing them.

    It also allows a QB to stand strong in the pocket not worried about a knee getting torn in half.

    I keep trying to get my wife to wear one on Black Friday. So far her conditioning has helped her but it' just a matter of time before some 300 pound bargain shopper rolls on her knee and then...kaputski.
