Isn't that assumption a bit of a reach, considering they cancelled the visit with him before the draft?

My theory is that it was the Titans spreading the neck injury rumors about Vander Esch, because they popped up shortly after they cancelled the visit. The reason they gave "thought he would be gone before their pick" was a bit lame, and intended to sound lame. I think they were hoping that the combo of them cancelling the visit (what else are you going to find out about him anyway?) and the long term injury rumors would lead other teams to think they found out something about LVE which would cause them to think he was undraftable. But that's just my conspiracy theory. I know Pauline at the time was a bit miffed that this was coming out, because he'd seen Vander Esch's medical report from the Combine, and he scored better than Roquan Smith, among other high picks. According to Tony at least.

I don’t think JR would waste his time on such nonsense. It was becoming apparent that Vander Esche would be off the board plain and simple and the weren’t going up that high without giving up a two and didn’t feel the value was there to balance out the lost pick. People get overactive imaginations around draft time. A lot less smoke and mirrors than folks think. I know two different scouts that back that opinion up for me.

... although McGinn's feedback from pro scouts had Evans rated ahead of Vander Esch. Fwtw. I think Edmunds and Smith were in a virtual tie for first place among LB, (84 and 83 votes), with Evans at 65, and Vander Esch at 49. I think that might have been before the Combine, though.

Not saying I don't like him. Saying I don't see anything but blitzes (mostly) that pretty much any athlete could do.

I'd be happy to be wrong.

Only thing I dislike about Evans is that he looks 50. Can't have a star player looking retired already. Lebron has that market covered.

Gets stood up often by RBs. On tackles, also.
