Blaine Gabbert visited the Titans (Update: now signed)

Yep. I wouldn't be dissatisfied with Gabbert. With Mariota's history, there odds are great that he will be playing a game or 2 this year, at least.. and I think Gabbert is best of what's out there. And that's good enough for me.

 

Hes at least won games recently if nothing else.

 

Yeah, I care more about what he did last season than with the Jags several years ago.

 

TBH we have fielded more embarrassing STARTERS than Gabbert, this past decade.

 

The most important aspect of a backup QB is that he can be ready to play without a ton of practice time. Gabbert has shown he's someone who can do that.

We need Marcus getting all the reps he can in this new system, so we need an experienced backup who can prepare on his own and be ready to step in with a moments notice. There aren't many other decent veteran options currently available, and I'd put Gabbert at the very top of those available.

We may draft a QB this year, but I fully expect us to sign a vet to actually be the backup. The drafted guy will likely be a practice squad guy.

Upgrade at QB2 - not going to praise him like he is the answer but IMo you could do a lot worse @ #2

Doesn't J Rob value tough players? Gabbert is scared to take a hit. I guess you can't be too picky when it comes to a backup QB, but still.

 

He's a better option than cassel. We can't really afford to draft a backup with mm8 injury history. We need a vet that can run a similar o and he fits that.
