Jurrell Casey: "I want Marcus back in that Oregon-style type offense"

I’m not bashing Casey. He was asked a question. I just don’t think this is something to really take seriously.

 

Of course not, but soon we won't even have this kind of stuff to over analyze

in a week and a half we will have no news to talk about. The combine isnt til march and then free agency a week after that, next month gonna suuuck

 

Too much speed in the NFL. We saw how far Chippy made it.

 

Defensive speed isnt really why Chips system failed. The reason the spread it out and throw it attack doesnt always work is becasue the spacing on the field is different in the NFL due to the hashes being so much closer to each other.

In college and HS you have very wide hashes cutting the field into unequal halves, so you just throw it to the open side of the field and run away, but in the pros you dont have that same ability. So yes its part speed, but before the speed comes in its the hashes fault you cant zip it around like that all day..

 

I'm sure most of the team feels the offense was being misused. Sure they liked Mularkey, doesn't mean they thought he was the right guy for the job.

I doubt the Titans use the full Oregon playbook going forward or anything that extreme, but the Patriots use more of those kind of "college" spread concepts than the Titans do, and their QB is a 40 year old pocket passing statue. Not someone who was, you know, literally a top product of that style of football.

You can't directly translate the SPEED AT ALL COSTS style of Oregon to the NFL, not the least because the refs simply won't set the ball and allow the play to start that fast. But you can use no-huddle situationally for an advantage, which New England also does more than the Titans.

 

I just think it’s amusing that the Mularkers are using this as ammunition.

And, again, I don’t think Mularkey is some great coach. Just saying.
