Well, okay “dickhead”. But a team can waive the rule, which would allow said position coach to interview for a coordinator position. Whether it’s consideered a promotion under those rules doesn’t matter. Ask a coach if that’s a promotion in their eyes. The natural progression for coaches is position coach, to coordinator to HC. Not hard.

I think we are talking about two different things here. Some of us took out the line that “QB coach is a lateral move” independent of the ability to interview a candidate. You are right in regards to can’t talk to a QB coach about an OC job on a team that is currently playing. I was a WR coach and I definitely was subordinate to the OC.

 

That is absolutely the discussion that I am having. Teams can waive that for coaches(ie: if it’s a better opportunity than they can provide). Not saying it will happen, but it’s not set in stone that we can’t interview someone until that teams says so.

It literally is set in stone. Read the rule. They can deny any move that is considered lateral.
