Tennessee needs a young pass-rusher. Veterans Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan will both be free agents in 2019, and 2016 second-round pick Kevin Dodd has only one career sack in limited action. I thought Landry had a chance to be a top-10 pick after he had 16.5 sacks last season, but he had a down 2017 season and missed five games because of an ankle injury. He's talented, but he needs to show he's fully healthy and explosive. The Titans will have a new head coach and could have a different scheme if they move away from Dick LeBeau's 3-4.

I think it was @Jwill1919 who said it first, but we need a better push from the middle if this defense wants to take the next step. Pressure off the edge is there for us, but I dont hate the idea of injecting some youth into LB, we're going to need it in a year or two..

Landry vs a future NFL Tackle not very impressed.

Landry vs some guy that will be selling umbrellas in the rain, little better.

Based on the only two cut-ups I could find of Landy from 2017 Im not a fan.

outside pressure is there, until 2019 when both our edge rushers contracts are up, and they will have some age and wear by then..with nobody coming down the pipes to replace them at this point.

Im all for it, because like you said; after 2019 we might have nothing on the edge

but this kid isnt the guy IMO, too lean, doesnt fight off blockers well, and vs the one NFL prospect he faced he was shut down every snap...

Id normally ask for more than 2 games worth of plays before labeling a guy but this guy was that uninspiring to watch I dont even want to dig up more tape..

Thanks for the call out. The most formidable years the Titans have ever had Defensifely were with Fat Al in the middle. He made our edge better than they were, he made 3 mediocre guys in the secondary Pro-Bowlers.

The middle of the defense blows up everything, and that’s where we need to start. QBs hate presssure in their face, they can handle it off the edge.

it works either way.. if you have good outside rush, it frees up the inside guys, if you have good inside rush, they have to focus on that, and it helps the outside guys.
Haynesworth in 2008 could have played any position on the DL and would have been all-world. He did, in fact. That's not something that will be replicated by anyone less than JJ Watt in his prime, maybe not even then.

But I guess so much depends on our new HC and the scheme as to which position they'll focus on. dunno how Orakpo would do as a 4-3 DE.

shorter path to the QB up the middle tho, and theres nowhere to climb to when the pressures in your face

Rak has played DE before, 43 probably favors this roster better, we dont have great ILB's/NT. Woodyard would be a good weak side backer if we switched... Might need to draft a MLB over OLB

We've needed that for a while, and havn't addressed it. Reality is we shouldn't be paying both guys after next season though, so Landry makes some sense.
