Yeah, one of those what else is he going to say situations. Not saying he doesn’t deserve credit because I don’t know. It would definitely be a risk, but still would prefer it over bland mularkey offense lol

Has worked with Shanahan and McVay, so if we want the closest thing to them, then he's our guy.

    A playbook from 2018 not 1978. I'll take it.

Agree with Bucky here. Don't love this.

This is why it's really upsetting we missed out on McDaniels and Shumer. Not a lot of proven offensive guys out there.

The offense doesn't need to be a super-complex spread. We just need a coach who can adapt to Mariota & Henrys strength, hide their weaknesses, and continue to build a solid defense. Which is EXACTLY what Doug Marrone did in JAX. We should hope to get someone who basically isn't stubborn and is up to date with modern football.

I actually like the idea of a HC calling the offense. We see it with Bill OBrien and I believe Pederson in Philly as well.

We see it all over the place. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

I prefer a CEO type who manages the game and delegates responsibilities to the staff he put in place.

I don't like a guy calling plays, managing timeouts, talking to guys upstairs for challenges, and worrying about personnel groups at the same time.

I also understand that it's usually part of the territory of hiring an OC to be the head coach, and admit it is not even close to a dealbreaker.

Strategy: #1 things to look for is Strategy. x and o's. Can he exploit the weaknesses of the other team, and isolate our strengths. I reckon having a sound playbook is important, but it's more important to me that he can adapt it to the opponent prior to the game, and in the middle of it. Someone who can connect the dots and not rely simply on what he knows. Experience can do this like LeBeau, but it's not critical, it's more about connecting seamlessly unconnected ideas to one another and exploiting your opponent. Hide you weakness, and exploit the opponents. Belichek.

Control: I'd rather my head coach have his fingerprints on everything than be a good delegator. But if we have a good OC that is fine, he can delegate. But I want head coach who micro managing to a degree. There's accountability. You get better, and nobody is any more important than the other. You can't simply be as a good as your head coach is, everyone has to be a leader.

Leader: I feel like this is important, rallying around your coach, but it's not necessary. The key is doing something today that makes your team better tomorrow. So like simple and short term goals over an energetic leader. Just do things that make you better. And everyone on the staff and the team has to lead anyway, so you lead on all levels to a degree. Saban and even Chucky are good examples of simple goals ( although I think Chucky is a great leader too).

Legacy: You want a coach who tells you how to do something simple, such that you remember it your entire life. And you can use it in your life to get better. Bill Walton, Vince Lombardi. This makes learning easy.

Innovator: This is less important to me than strategy. You should have a series of plays that work well with your talent, run them until they are stopped, and then go to your wrinkle once they do stop it. It is better to have a modern offense though.

The Profile: Coach looking for his second job, 7 years experience, winning percentage over .500, mid 40's, offensive minded, strategically gifted, micro manager, keeps things simple.

The don't: Don't hire within. Don't hire a position coach.
