Left tackle or Free Safety at #1, that's what this thread is asking.

When a Safety blows a coverage or misses a tackle, it doesn't risk injuring our Franchise QB and ending our season.

He have a left tackle who was one of the top 15 in pass blocking in his second year in a system notorious for making lineman look bad.

That didn't happen with our LT last year though. It happened with our 3rd string G and a missed assignment from our backup RB.

We have a G and C not blocking anyone and Lewan gets "beat" because of a total lack of communication. That's not a talent deficiency. It's five guys who have no idea how to work together. All of that and the hit was still late.

I mean, to me, it looks like that twist should have been switched. Lewan should have taken the DT that loops all the way around, and Bell shouldn't have chased him like Rocky chasing a chicken. Schwenke blocked a ghost.

All this tells me is that they need talent and depth. Plus their "#1"CB is getting up in age and it's time to bring in a new guy. Your post is the exact reason we should draft Ramsey!

I'll agree with you - that generally OT would be more important than a DB (especially a LT), as I follow the philosophy that it all starts in the trenches. But since it's a tough decision you'd rather just trade back to miss out on both and the top tier of talent in this draft?

This is how I look at it: What's our weakest link on both sides of the ball? Easy answer OLine and Secondary - once both are fixed we aren't that far from competing. Obviously, protecting Mariota is our golden objective, but second to that IMO is addressing our leaky secondary. While keeping in mind the second objective I've listed, is Tunsil the better pick?

Do we pass up on an extreme athlete and playmaker in the secondary for more uncertainty on the O-line? We draft Tunsil - Lewan moves over to the right side - is his transition succesful? does he leave in FA to get paid and be a LT elsewhere (as he was a top rated LT)? does Tunsil match our blocking scheme? do we want to trust a rookie LT and a newly converted RT to bookend Mariota?? I'm with Delanie when he proclaimed we have enough youth on the OL, as we do have some good young pieces with potential: Lewan, Warmack, Spain, Poutasi. And we saw improvement in the bunch we had last year after the coaching change. We've already brought in Jones and still could sign Vasquez; ideally we would have already found a match in FA for RT - but not doing so IS NOT the end all and doesn't force our hand to draft Tunsil.

Drafting Ramsey would be another move IMO that would "speed up" the process or put us ahead of schedule on this rebuild. It may be a pick that goes against conventional thinking, but it does address a glaring need and provides our secondary something it has been missing: attitude & leadership along with raw talent and skill. When was the last time we had a true playmaker/game changer on the defensive side of the ball or secondary at that? Adam Jones lol? Do we make Ramsey the selection because it is a pick "that would speed up the process" - no. We take him because it emphatically begins to help address a glaring need for us, and he is a talent we desperately need to cover the elite WRs in the division as well as avoid playing him twice a year in a Jags uni.

As for this thread - we all knew it would turn into the Tunsil v Ramsey debate.

I'll just say this and attempt to be done with this discussion... up until Morgan got injured and we lost McCourty our defense didn't look too bad... our O line looked horrible from week 2 on. A case can be made for both players. Some of us think Tunsil is the way to go, while another sees Ramsey as the answer... I'm going to LMFAO if neither is the pick in the end and probably be po'd but it is what it is. The same argument being made for the 1st pick can also be made IMO for the 33rd. We are unlucky there is no must have QB in this draft, we are very lucky the 2 positions we really need help at are also the deepest in the draft.
