This language isn't about mariota. It's about setting a precedent for the next five assclowns we draft in the first and second rounds.

Here is my issue with Climer's argument: he claims that it seldom becomes an issue. This means that a top 5 qb is rarely cut within 4 yrs of being drafted. If it's that little of an issue, then why are Mariota's agents insistent on offset language not being present in the language of the contract.

Both parties are really being petty, IMO. I understand the Titans not wanting to set a bad precedent. I also understand the agents wanting to show other clients their big "win." But it's really not that bIG of a win. I'm a pre-lawyer and I'll defend lawyers to the end, but really there isn't much use for agents on an nfl rookie contract. Pay an atty to look at the contract before signing. It'll be much cheaper.

Titans need to be careful. Although, I think they need to be financially wise with their decisions. They are a setting a precedence and if they hope at all to retain his services long term even after the four years. Everything they are doing now in these negotiations may not be forgotten. Especially if it's a player that had a small interest in being in Nashville to begin with. (Not saying at all that's the case). But you don't give him an 'excuse' not to resign long term when it comes time.

What they are doing now could leave lasting taste in his mouth. And they may never overcome it. Just get the deal done Underwood.

The other thing is they are not really sending a huge vote of confidence his direction with the route they are taking. They are not showing a huge amount of faith in their decision to take him. What kind of things do you think might go through the young players mind and how might that effect him on the field? Is this language really worth it? You've had a nice offseason that could lead to some positive stuff during the season. What you are doing now is just momentum killer. And again unneeded.

What the Titans are doing will cause no ill will with Mariota. He knows there are only 2 teams in the league who are not requiring offset language and both of those franchises are losers. Mariota will not hold out over offset language.

I hope not. Again, the effects of their negotating tactics may not be evident this season. It may not show again until he is ready to resign sometime down the line.

Show some faith in him. A lot of what Russell Wilson has become is due to the faith and trust Pete Carroll and John Schneider showed him early on and continue show which propelled him to where he is today. They made this monster and this contractual situation with the way they handled him early on and through out his young career.. They did all the right things. Pushed all the right buttons with him. I can't see anything positive with the Titans are handling this. Nor do I feel they are pushing the right buttons. There is a place for Business. And there is a place for football. The two are getting intertwined right for Titans. And it may hurt them.

    No. It won't.

Now, if the he puts together some seasons like Russell Wilson and the Titans don't step up to make a big-money, long-term deal happen before his option year is completed, then I could see it leaving a bad taste.

FWIW, the old rep of the Titans not paying their players is behind them. They've given some stupid money to very average players the last few years.

We'll see. I think it could have lingering effects. Especially if it's a player who may have had Philly on his mind. In the end, everything you do and what you do you are selling yourself and what your organization is about. So you want a make a good lasting impression from the beginning. YOU ARE OUR MAN. AND WE ARE GOING TO TREAT AS YOU SUCH.

From the outside, it appears there is some unstability within this organization. I couldn't even tell you who the owner is. The President has an interim tag next to his name. And I think that is playing big deal into what is going on. And just don't think it sends the right message.
