but the defense doesnt have any "swagger" they havent since Schwartz took over. Alot of that comes from coaching, its called a killer instinct. Its like playing to win instead of playing to keep from getting beat.

A lot of it also comes from the players on the field and how they feed off of each other's personalities.

I thought the defense had plenty of swagger as the season went on in '02 (kind of rebuilding portions of the secondary early on), and carried over to '03. It's funny, when I read how Keith Bulluck thinks they need to get back to the "old" days when they were the "Tennessee Tyrants" -- it occurs to me that they never called themselves that in Bulluck's first year/Williams' last year, that I remember.

I'm pretty sure that was something Bulluck created with guys like Schulters and Kearse. Under Jim Schwartz.

The only director on the team is Fisher. He's the one that sets the tone for the team plus he's a defensive coach himself. If the Titans go to a prevent defense it's because Fish said so. His teams have always played those type defenses in the second half with leads. ALWAYS!!!! Even with Williams and even before that. We had better players then so we won more games. Pretty easy, really....

"Swagger" ???? How do you have swagger when your 4-9. How do you measure swagger anyway? For that matter, how do you recognize swagger? Is there a stat for swagger? Swagger would come from the head coach not the coordinators.

whats the difference between kiffen, bilichick, crennel and schwartz?

kiffen, belichick and crennel have a some creativity about them.

ronde barber(a cornerback) has 20 career sacks. the last time we blitzed a corner was against cincy last year.

have you seen the guys crennel has to work with this year on that defense? he has former defensive ends playing outside linebacker. former DTs playing end and their prized free agent signing, gary baxter, is on IR. yet, they give up 18 points a game.

schwartz has to put up with injuries? what did belichick have to do last year when they won the super bowl? he had two undrafted free agents playing corner and had a mlb playing saftey a few games.

i dont think anyone is disputing playing soft zone with a lead in the second half. every team does that. but we do it when we're winning by three and there is 2 minutes left in the first half.

I don't think that is accurate. We all agree that we have had injuries in the past. Most of the people that want to fire Schwartz (like me) expect more even with injuries. What are our expectations. No one expected us to win the superbowl, AFC or AFC South. I think we expected a competitive team and more so a competitive defense from Schwartz in his 3rd season. We see other teams compete with injuries and feel that our team should do the same. I don't get upset because we lose, I get upset because they lose playing like punks. Our defensive aggressiveness and intensity is VOID. I am not sure if Williams took it with him or Schwartz let it go.

Conversely, most of the people that believe that our defense is good will quote you statistics on how good they are and how they are ranked against the run, etc. It still doesn't change the fact that Willie Parker rushed for almost 200 yards against you and ONLY you. They will also use multiple excuses like it's his first year coaching, we had injuries, the offense can't score, the players are horrible because they can't tackle and coaching someone to tackle is not the job of the coach in NFL. Yada, Yada, Yada.

What was wrong with the defense in Schwartz's third season?

Compared to, say, Williams' third season (1999)?

I don't think that's true, because they've blitzed Jones a little this year, and they still blitz Woolfolk from the slot -- but lately they've experimented with putting Williams closer to the line in the nickel at times and dropping Woolfolk back into more of a safety position, and blitzing Tank instead.

Maybe the difference is that Barber actually got the sacks when they blitzed him, but maybe that says something about the blitzer, too.

You did see some of those not-so-dominating performances by the defense during the worst of that injury run last year, didn't you?

The 441 yards (150 by Koren Robinson) and 20 points they gave up to Seattle? (The offense scored 30 and held the ball for over 31 minutes, though).

The 417 yards they gave up to Pittsburgh in the 34-20regular season loss?

The 478 yards they gave up to Cincinnati in a 35-28 loss?

The two late fourth-quarter touchdowns they gave up in losing to Miami?

they had some bad games, but they were also second in the league in points allowed. also, in the post season, they gave up 17 points per game.

Schwartz has no clue...absolutely NO clue whatsoever as to how to get the best from his players.

    That's why he's always sucked.

And whatever he tries...and ends up succesful with - he'll abandon. He's a moron, plain and simple.

I think I know his players and what their best at better than he does. He simply seems like he doesn't do the homework.
