I think Whis is finally ready to give a little. I don't think this pick would've been made if he weren't. I think he is probably a little bit humbled at this point. He stunk it up in AZ after Warner retired and then he took over a very bad Titans team from a very bad HC and somehow managed to make them even worse. Perhaps he's finally realizing that "his way" ain't all it's cracked up to be and if he wants to keep coaching in this league he needs to change his ways.

IDK just trying to be optimistic about it. I do realize lots of stubborn people never change. We'll see I guess.

The way the Titans draft.. a trade down is far from a guarantee of picking up solid players. How well are the Rams doing, even though they got a king's ransom for the RGIII trade?

They STILL lack a good NFL starting QB, which is exactly why they're going to continue to have problems getting over the hump.

Trading down would not have fixed the most glaring hole on our team. Mariota is at least taking a shot to fix it. Unless you're the Browns or Raiders.. you aren't often in position to take QB 1a or 2 in most drafts.

We got another with a good (non Jameis) attitude, and one with hopefully better skills and durability than Locker.

And we weren't screwed if we had taken the Eagles late 1st, and another future 1st round pick?? Who do you think we'd take at these picks to really brighten up the nest 5 seasons?

We'd still have class clown ZM as our QB.

If we took LW, we'd have 2 good 3-4 DEs, and not much else.

LW would have been far and away the worst pick of the draft if they did that.

Mariota swells up the value of the pick, and then you say "thanks but no thanks" and give all that value to the Jags?

    What a disaster.

Anyway, I like the pick more than I liked it last night. And I liked it last night.

    Week 6 vs. the Jaguars?

Or does it not count because it was only because of a blocked FG?

And so do the Redskins, but the Rams are doing a hell of a lot better because they could fill a lot of holes with their extra picks, so that's a really poor example.

    All goofing around aside:

I really wanted Amari Cooper. I thought a WR group of Cooper, Wright, and Hunter (if he gets his act together) could have been tremendous. With a good WR group and a functional OLine, I really believe Mett could be a good NFL starting QB who fits Whiz's system perfectly.

That said, I'm not surprised or terribly upset with the Mariota pick. If we hadn't drafted Mariota, the Jaguars would have jumped at the chance to get a king's ransom for their pick, so in a sense, us picking Mariota hurt the Jags. And who knows, maybe Mariota will be good? He's certainly more likely to be good than Jake Locker or Vince Young.

I'm not mentioning the QB they traded for.. But they got all those picks, and even 3 years later, they are still mediocre at best. It's about TAKING A SHOT at greatness at QB. Rams took the safe choice, and they aren't any better off than the 2013 Titans..

I think, when you have a top pick, you go for that one big player that will make your franchise turn around. It may fail, but you have to try. To succeed, you have to have a good QB. Redskins had the balls to take that shot, Rams did not.

I will never argue that RGIII, Mariota, or any QB is a safe pick. But this is a QB's league. Nobody that the Rams got out of that trade is going to get them to the big time.

The rams were lucky to get Foles.... we'll see how he turns out there.
