Titans center Brian Schwenke appeared to play effectively in his NFL debut.

After being inactive for each of the first six games, the rookie started in place of veteran Rob Turner, who was benched.

The Titans seemed to create more running room for Chris Johnson, who averaged 4.3 yards per carry — 1.2 more than his average. But the Titans only ran Johnson nine times for 39 yards because they had to throw more often after falling behind 24-0.

Schwenke was on target with his shotgun snaps.

“For the first game, it could have been worse,” said the fourth-round pick from California. “I hold myself to very high standards, and it wasn’t even close to what I wanted to do. I wanted to go out there and completely dominate. But we lost and that is the different thing.”

Turner, who signed a $1.5 million contract with the Titans during he offseason, started the first six games. He was deactivated for this game as the Titans went with Chris Spencer as a reserve.

“He’s not really playing a swing position,” coach Mike Munchak said of Turner. “We think Chris is a better guy at playing all three spots, playing guard. If a guard had gotten hurt today, he’d be a better fit to go play guard.”

About time he got to play. Wish had done it sooner. Now our return guy and a certain receiver need to be deactivated. We are getting to the no room for error state .

Good news. We were eating up chunks of yds in the beginning with CJ, but fell behind fast and had to abandon it. Looking good moving forward against lesser teams.

Stewart was indeed awful today. He's done. Have to cut him this off-season.

Schwenke was quite good today I thought. I believe we have a starting C for multiple years to come.

I can only think of one play right neow that he really got bested. The niners ran a twist on the inside and he didn't slide to the correct guy.

I specifically watched Schwenke on numerous plays. He's solid and with some seasoning could be all-pro caliber next year.
