Oddly enough they showed goaline replays in stadium for all those plays.

We'll most likely end up with some other kind of synthetic football other than a leather one. Some Nerf looking chit.

A mesh liner that merely reflects a signal that is transmitted and received by sensors in key spots on the field.

I think it’s worth a try just to improve the imperfect spotting in general but the refs still have to determine where it is at the moment the runner is down.
So even if they electronically see wherever the ball is, it has to be matched up with the precise moment the run is over.

But it would allow for better challenges for the spot if a coach decided too.

It would and I’m for it. There are just some limitations that would still exist.

The other thing the league could do is put more cameras out there.

I’m also still a fan of cutting way back on the amount of replays. Force the refs to actually call the game vice just waiting for replay to always save them. I think that makes them hesitant to make calls.

Curious if they get some sort of repercussion for any calls changed by replay.

That's easily solved. Have some sort of smart Bluetooth whistle linked to the sensors in the ball (or actually, both synced to some sort of computer really.)

When the ref blows the whistle ending the play (which should happen the moment the runner is down) the smart ball takes a yardage reading.

It could easily be done. The tech is there. You'd think some tech company (like microsoft, the leagues tech sponsor) would love the publicity of this. Would probably provide the equipment for free just for the pub.

You would still need the perfect camera angles to capture when the player is clearly down vs when the pylon/1st down stick lights up (signifying the ball crossed the line).

For example, the ball crossed the goal line 2 times in the Titans stand ... but 2 were after the player was down, 1 after a fumble. The chip would've counted that as 3 Charger TDs.

Could've definitely helped in the Tannehill sneak, because we could've visually seen him standing in Bosa's arms when the stick lit up.

Wouldn't be fool proof, but would be a nice tool for refs to have to get close calls right.
