I’m talking about JR’s rhetoric. “We’d like to sign him but…” that feels the same not their individual circumstances. If we really wanted Conklin, we would have massaged the cap like they are going to have to this year. I don’t think they franchise Landry, and I’m not confident we get him back. I hope we do, but not expecting it.

The problem with the tag is that I think you have to eat the whole thing cap-wise in that year if he isn’t signed.

Conklin: "We'd like to sign him, but......"

...and the but is that he told us to go eff ourselves.

Landry: "We'd like to sign him, but......."

...and the but is that we need to move numbers around.

At what time do we have to be under the cap? It's not until final cuts right? I mean, we could tag him/sign him then figure it out down the road.

I just don't want him to end up on a division rival like the Colts.

Anyone ever get the idea that Conklin didn't mesh well in the locker room? Ever hear Lewan talk about Conklin as being "a boy"? You'd think a couple of white first round tackles would be best buddies.

we have to be under the cap by the start of the league yr which is March 16th. so technically I guess we could tag him and still use this week to negotiate and if we don't like where things are going then we could take the tag off of him

Even with a tag, we could simply cut Saffold, Jenkins, and Lamm to create that space needed to get under the cap. Of course, that leaves with very little room to work with in FA, but you worry about that down the line.

But ultimately, I am not optimistic about us tagging Landry at this point. I don't understand why either. If you don't want to re-sign him, tag him and trade him. Someone will undoubtedly take his services. If you do want to keep him, tag him and try to work out a deal. There legit is no downside in tagging him unless he gets hurt in a freak accident between now and August, which you run that risk with every player.

I know from a cap standpoint that the tag number hits the Titans at the start of the league yr. Usually players don't sign the offer because they want to continue to negotiate for a long term deal. So if Landry were to blow out a knee working out and he had not signed the contract then couldn't the Titans rescind the tag and thus not be on the hook.

I totally agree that we can easily get under the cap with a few roster moves...we will know in a few hours, but I say tag him even if to just buy more time to negotiate....take him off the market before the legal tampering period and let other teams go ahead and fill their edge rush needs.
