    Truth.

The fact is that it makes no sense at this point for the FO to make a long-term deal with him. He's already under contract for 19, and there are too many questions that remain unclear regarding whether or not he's worth the risk.

I expect the team to evaluate him during 19 and then either sign him long-term or tag him and draft his replacement.

We keep talking about an incentive laden deal, but if you're Mariota why would you agree to that now? He knows if he has a good season he could get a much better deal after the season is over. Remember he's the guy who held out of his rookie training camp over something as minute as offset language. No way he's agreeing to a deal with a bunch of incentives.

I keep hearing folks on the radio and online talking about "If Mariota stays healthy and has a good year next year, then sign him to a long term contract." My question is, why would they base a long term deal that will easily be over $100 million off of the one year he DOES stay healthy and does play well, when 3 out of 4 of the previous years he's missed the season finale and only had over 20 TD passes once?

I get that QBs are hard to come by but sheesh, we already know who and what Mariota is even if he does make it through an entire season. I wouldn't base everything off his one good year with so many other years that weren't great.

well.. if he believes in himself a deal with incentives would be fine. they also get a signing bonus when they sign team friendly deals.... even if not as large

The problem is that we really DON'T know what Mariota truly is, given staffing changes and fluctuations in the rest of the team roster.

He's shown flashes of excellence, and he's had poor performances as well. Just keep in mind that the Titans have had several winning seasons with MM8, and that the QB situation could be much worse.

We'd all like to have a QB like Brady, Brees, Luck or Rivers, but guys like that are exceptions to the rule and take time to develop. The fact remains that at this point MM8 could still be a boom or a bust, and the19 season will likely be the best chance to make that determination.

As much as I hate it, I feel that myself. I turned the game on and spent time with my family instead of watching it once I knew MM8 was out.

I didn't even bother to dvr it because I knew what the outcome was going to be.
