Congratulations to Dominican Republic going undefeated in Caribbean Series

Congratulations to Melbourne Aces for their ABL championship.

odd watching game and 'snap lockdown' announced by the Melbourne authorities... at 5pm they announced 5 day lockdown - stay home, no visitors, CANT CROSS STATE BORDERS - live during the game... ZERO Fs given by fans... matter of fact crowd surged as game went on - LOL

very odd seeing how baseball traditions adapted in other places... and sorta neat.

pitchers & catchers reporting THIS WEEK!

watching the on field ceremonies after ABL championship... refreshing... they just handed the guys their championship medals and the tournament MVP trophy was less than a foot tall... ZERO police visible ... NONE... fans stayed in their seats not rushing the field... friends and family joined players on field ...

and of course Ace the groundskeeper assistant ( his pet blue heeler ) was there chilling like a boss - LOL

the players seemed genuinely happy to be there

You didn't mention MLB, but I will.

Trevor Bauer was signed for more money (avg per year) than the entirety of the Pirates roster (appx 40 mil - 30 mil)

MLB has a serious issue with roster disparity and the amount of money spent for "small market" teams.

MLB needs a CAP, an actual CAP, because this current taxing the big rosters a tad and throwing the nickles at the small market teams aint working

at least for the small market teams

I see zero chance of it changing because there are a handful of teams, yankees Braves Cubs - off the top of my head, with significant 'local' brodcasting arrangements and those teams will never share that revenue

until MLB can tackle that there is zero chance at a meaningful CAP

    which sucks

NFL has been puzzifying the game for years and years, but at least every team has the same CAP to spend on talent. I wish they would put in a Staff & FO CAP as well.. because currently the staff & FO make or break a team

MLB unveils 120-team minor league realignment

as a minor league baseball fan, somewhat, I cant fully get onboard with this... it is just a damn shame is all.

As it stands MLB controls baseball - period

at least MiLB salaries went up a tad, which is nice. SHOULD be more like $600-700 instead of $400ish IMO. So many players wind up never signing MLB contracts and are 29 years old with zero skills and huge debts cause MiLB salaries are so miserable. Some get connected and have good winter jobs to make up for the lowball pay in MiLB

this one is so bizarre its hardly worth mentioning... but MLB has decided that the negro leagues were MLB and has incorporated their records into MLB history... LOL

I have done more reading than vast majority of people about baseball history and the best argument that can be made was that the best negro league teams were on par with the best AAA teams of the day. There clearly were some individual players who were MLB quality... no reasonable person disputes this... but vast majority of negro league players would NOT have been MLB quality. Some not even close.

soooo... how does this affect things... well they have added plenty of counter stats to plenty of MLB players who had 'cups of coffee' in the negro leagues.

just raw race pandering from MLB

I agree overall but I think the record books will still have all kinds of asterixis and markings all over to denote the differences in game play, leagues, and even eras.

As an example, I know the "dead ball" era is differentiated a little bit and same with whatever they call the era where batters could pick their strike zone (knees to waist or waist to chest).

To that extent, I don't really have a problem with it.

On the note of the Negro leagues, fun fact:
The first white guy to play on a Negro league team was Eddie Klep (Erie, PA native like myself).
He also was bullied so bad, his first game in Alabama, he was forced to get out of uniform and sit in the stands as a "fan". He only played a total of like 3 games because he just wasn't any good.
This happened about 3-4 years before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier the opposite direction.

He also has a movie script that was written and bought by Dennis Leary in the 90's however never got off the ground and the rights were purchased by Happy Madison in the early 00's which still own the rights. No movie has ever been produced, I have no doubt that fan fare to the opposite side of racism is only getting less and less sympathetic today and the movie has zero chance of success.

Would a cap even help though? It's almost like baseball needs a salary floor to get some of these teams to spend.

IMO, roids made MLB records meaningless decades ago.

Same for the NFL. How can most records mean anything when the rules, equipment, etc. is so vastly different throughout its history? And there’s no doubt drugs have impacted NFL records like they have MLB.
