I think it is a lot more than a fraction of a percent. Remember XBox is sold world-wide.

But that's only part of the issue. I can't imagine not being able to play a single player game on XBox because Comcast is having problems.

I had already sworn off ever buying a Microsoft console again. But if I hadn't this would've been the final nail in the coffin. "Always on" is a terrible idea. I was dealing with connection outages all weekend, and it's not like I live out in the boonies and/or have some subpar service. Outages just happen. The Xbox folks really aren't thinking this one through (if true).

Honestly, I'm strongly considering passing on PS4 as well. I'm a big Playstation fan and love a bunch of their exclusives. But console prices these days are just getting outrageous. It was a bit easier to justify the PS3 cost because of the built-in Blu-ray player. But the PS4 doesn't have anything like that to offer as an added incentive. I'll just have to see what the # ends up being. I'd most likely be a buyer at $400. But anything more than that would be very hard for me personally to justify.

I'm planning on getting a gaming PC soon anyway. I could live without the PS exclusives. It's not like there's any shortage of game choices out there.

I do not mind being connected 24/7, I do however hate the idea of not being able to use a system without it being connected to the internet.

Yeah, that's the thing everyone's taking issue with. It's a bad idea for sooooo many reasons. We've already mentioned random outages. But what if someone simply falls on hard times? Say you dish out $500 for this console then lose your job or experience some other kind of financial hardship. Some people might decide to cut their internet for a period of time in that situation. And it'd be pretty s****y that the thing you just paid so much money for is now just an oversized paperweight.

I really can't see them moving forward with this idea. It would effectively be surrendering to Sony IMO.

Oh, I know. I used to work for Xbox, world wide too ;). It is actually not sold in too many countries. At least not as of when I left. In the Americas you have US, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Brazil. There is all of Europe, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan in Asia then Australia and New Zealand.

I have also traveled to some dirt poor countries and with the exception of Cuba you can get good broadband internet in populated areas wherever I have been. Even in Cambodia which has been consistently ranked among the poorest countries in the world I was able to get get a solid broadband connection.

BTW, I do agree with you that this is not a good feature. I know this is something they have been talking about since the 360 came out. That their next console would be all online. Never thought it was a good idea. But for a different reason:

I, and many of my friends, bring our Xbox or PS3 to different places and it is not always possible to get online. Like hotels for instance. While almost all hotels have Internet most cannot be used to connect to Live due to how they are set up. There are other places we bring our consoles where it is not possible to get on Live.

I always sell mine once a new console comes out. I hate hanging onto things that will just collect dust.

I do however regret selling my SNES, but at the time I needed some money for the new XBOX
