I have really been curious about this guy for over a month now. I am no college expert what-so-ever so anyone in these forums can hopefully enlighten me on Mingo in general.

Let me start out by saying I am still pulling for one of Warmack / Cooper @ the o-line. It would further solidify the o-line for what is undoubtly going to be a huge make-it-or-break-it type year for Locker. The Titans FO brass seem hell-bent in supplying Locker with the adequate protection he will need with the signing of Levitre and Turner.

However, if they do go defense @ 10 it's time to start going over some feasible options.

Linebackers are set and Milliner won't get past Detroit most-likely thus they wont stretch for any of the other cornerback options even though Trufant is intriguing. So the next likely defensive option is defensive end / hybrid LB type. But since the Titans play a 4-3 and the LB core is basically rounded out, even with McCarthy's injury history, the Titans would go DE. Yes, Wimbly and Morgan are on the corners but still upgrades could be given, with Wimbly under-achieving and Morgan with his prior injury-list history.

    So that finally brings me to Mingo. 6'4, 240 lbs. His body resembles that of another Titan draft pick at DE which worked wonders especially in his rookie-year Jevon Kearse. Both have very similiar traits;

    Tall, Thinned-Bodied Athlete Rusher.
    Very Fast / Agile.
    Explosive.
    Sideline-To-Sideline Speed.
    Will Pressure the QB.

He is listed as an outside LB but I thought he played some DE while at LSU? As mentioned he is thin and fast thus he lacks on strength and size. So getting off the line as a DE may not translate well into the NFL thus he would have to remain at LB which is not an area of concern especially not at 10 overall which is why I think no one is talking about this guy.

He is mocked in the top-15 in a lot of mocks but does he fit a need? Titans are known for taking chances on tweener/hybrid type atheltes, however @ 10 it may be too high to make such a risk. I am still intrigued on Mingo and wondered why he isn't being discussed more in this forum.

Any college fans out there please enlighten me on this guy. Can he be a Jevon Kearse type? Or is he strictly a fast, pass-rushing LB who does not have the strength to play DE?

There has been a Barkevious Mingo thread for the past month.

How you missed the Mingo thread from Playmaker is beyond me.

Mingo played left DE in a 4-3 system at LSU. Because LSU had another great De on the other side he did not move around like many good players do. Everybody on this board should know that.

At 240 lbs he is simply not an every down 4-3 DE. Why would you ever draft a player 10th who is not an every down player?

If we want to change to a 3-4 base defense fine but i don't like the idea. He didn't even dominate in the sec last year.

I prefer defensive options like Rhodes, Sheldon Richardson, Werner.

Hahahhaa, to be honest, I want Ansah... Just for the sole reason of when he breaks out (if so that is), I would customize his jersey and get it 'Ziggy' fo sho!!

And he is African too, dare I say I'm bias to ma peeps!

I don't think they miss the threads, if you haven't noticed, these guys are grasping for anything to talk about. Soon we'll have a thread asking what # number Mingo should have on his jersey if he becomes a Titan or what color of boxer briefs he should wear (and start a poll) lol.

Anyone drafting Mingo should be running a base 3-4 in my eyes. From what I've read, people are comparing him to the likes of Von Miller (although I don't see him nearly as good, Von was a star and two time all-american, Mingo doesnt have such credentials to his name - but then again, what do I know about college ball)...

Also, as RollTide said, I also don't like these little guys as starting 4-3 DE's (i.e. KW falls in that category as well). They just don't seem like every down players....

Also, in that list of yours I'd add Ziggy... After missing JPP, he looks to be the 2nd coming of such a talent and I know Millard and Gregg will coach the ish outa of him....

The problem with Mingo is he is a one trick pony that only uses speed to beat offensive tackles outside. If Ansah was off the board I would honestly rather draft a OG or get Dion Jordan and just bounce Ayers to LDE permanently. At least then you are upgradeing two spots rather then taking a player who is going to bust big time like most LSU defensive linemen

The difference between Mingo and a Von Miller or Jarvis Jones is that we have no idea if he can play as a 4-3 linebacker. Miller played as a 4-3 linebacker for one year at A&M. People assume with his athletic ability and body type that Jarvis Jones can make that move. At least Jones was a linebacker for Georgia so you have some film of him doing linebacker things.

Miller with the Broncos is obviously the blueprint, a guy who is a high quality 4-3 SAM backer half the time and an elite edge rusher with his hand down half the time.

All Mingo has done is play as a 4-3 DE.

Even as a 3-4 OLB he might be a liability against the run. Look at the redskins they have 2 265 lb 3-4 OLBs and honestly should be a 4-3 team.

Even if we went whole hog with a 3-4 system would OLB be a major need area?

As a 3-4 team we would move Morgan inside to the DE spot and our OLBs would be Wimbley and Ayers. Of course it would be nice to have a young 21 year old guy who might some day be better than either of them but is Mingo that guy?
