thats how is suppose to go

day-1 ask your young QB to throw maybe 20 balls

    year-2 a little more

My comment about Flacco never missing the playoffs was extremely relevant because it was a direct response to someone who literally said Eli and Flacco "aren't going to take you to the playoffs."

How can my argument possibly be any more relevant?

Yeah I agree, But most people on here seem to think if you aren't lighting it up from day one you are a bust.

I guess ESPN has been trying to spread that notion though. They're always talking about how qbs are so much more prepared coming out of college ... which I think is true to a certain extent, but not as much as what ESPN would have you believe.

The real reason that we have seen a lot of success by rookie Qbs is becuase the teams executed great plans to cover their inherent rookie weaknesses and allow them to do a little, but be successful at the little they did. Ravens and Falcons did it with Ryan and Flacco. And now Seattle, 49ers and WAS is doing it with thier young Qbs.

We have not done that with Locker yet. The coaches threw him in before the TEAM was ready. We really did set Locker up to fail last year.

But from the FA we had this year, it seems the FO learned from their mistake. So I am happy.

Point is, it wasnt FLACCO taking them to the playoffs every year. It was the Defense and running game taking them to the playoffs.

Its like saying KFC took us to the playoffs 2008. No he didn't, he was merely on the team when we went. Almost any QB in the league would've taken us to the playoffs that year. And its the same for Flacco for most years (maybe not quite as extreme as the KFC example).

You can't be a bad quarterback and make the playoffs five straight years (every single year of your career). It just doesn't work that way. Flacco may not be Aaron Rodgers, but he's a damn good player and he's certainly one that many NFL teams would consider to be an upgrade over what they have.

The fact that guys are arguing against that point is crazy to me. But I guess people around here like to argue.

It may be 'dumb' but toss them on a team that doesn't have the weapons they have and they would drown. We will see this year with Flacco, they are not stand alone QBs and get too much credit for the play around them.

See this is why I don't think you get my point.

Put Flacco or Eli on the Chargers and I bet they don't make the playoffs. They don't make players around them better, they are the ones that benefit from having pieces around them. Average regular season guys that get/got hot in the playoffs, thats all. We can probably agree that that is the best time to get hot, but like I said before, these guys are not going to carry you to the playoffs because they haven't yet.

The Baltimore Ravens won the Super Bowl in 2000 (2001 technically, but the 2000 season) with a dominant defense.

In the next 7 years, they were 1-3 in the playoffs, failing to qualify 4 times. Incredibly, their different quarterbacks (including one Steve McNair) weren't able to win playoff games with such a good defense.

    Then they drafted Joe Flacco.

Since then, they have made the playoffs 5 straight years. They have 9 playoff wins in those 5 years, including a Super Bowl.

    The numbers speak for themselves.

you are not accounting for the large player turnover after the first superbowl. the ravens also drafted well and restocked.

numbers are fine and dandy, but they do not always paint the full picture.
