    19.4 mil in cap space.

    --Releasing Amano saves 3.94 mil
--Releasing Jordan Babineaux saves 1.6 mil
--Releasing Hawkins saves 1.9 mil (if these first 3 are released, brings us to 26.84 Mil exactly)
--Releasing/Retiring Hutchinson saves 4.75 mil, bringing us to 31 Mil (approx.)

Cutting ties with Hasselbeck would bring that number to approx. 36 million.

Let's say we have 31 mil in cap space after releases/retirements. Cook is a prime candidate to be re-signed or franchise tagged, costing us about 5-6 million. Velasco is a RFA and I'd imagine they'd like to keep him around. Bironas is also a free agent I expect to be retained. Reynaud as well. These 4 guys should cost us what, 10 million in total? Lutui is a FA who played decently for us, I can see some interest in keeping him. I doubt Harris comes back.

That brings us down to 21 mil. Save 5 mil for the rookie pool, 16 mil left.

So it's not as much money as appears, but certainly there's room for a great player or 2.

I dont think we need a great player, but a few solid starting caliber guys... I think that will be better for us right now honestly. Similar to the year we got hope, thorton, mawae, Harper, etc. I Would rather have no holes than a star or 2 and several holes.

Plus it will give us more freedom in the draft

Very very slim we cut lose Amano or especially Hass, this isn't Madden guys.

And while we are at it, the 3-4 isn't looking so bright in our future either.

Would be nice if we could just cut the whole team minus a few key guys and go crazy in free agency/draft.

What makes you think Amano won't be released? A 4 million cap figure for a guy who didn't play last year, and was graded as the worst starting C in the league the year before. 1000% he's going to be cut. I agree Hasselbeck won't be cut, that's why I said 31 mil in cap space and not 36.

Because Munch is in do or die mode and needs all the familiarity he can get. You can bet they are pretty excited to have him back, worst center or not last year.

While I think many of those moves will take place the numbers aren't quite right. For example Amano's signing bonus was 7.25 mil and he has this year and next left on his contract. So the dead money is about 3 mil. The 3.9 figure is base salary only. Now he could be cut just based on his base salary since there is no way he is worth that much.

Same deal with Hutchinson. His base is 4.75 but he has two years left on a deal that had a 4.5 mil signing bonus. So the savings is 4.75 minus the 3 mil in dead money.

Hawkins base is 1.9 which is ridiculous but he also has two years left with 1.3 mil of dead money if he gets cut.

They do save 1.4 in CAP space cutting Babs but he sin't going anywhere until someone beats him out. Our S depth is pathetic so as bad a he is he will still have a chance to make the roster. They won't cut him to save 1.4 mil early on.

If they cut CJ they save 10 mil in base slary but only 4 mil overall in CAP.

So basically dumping all those guys including CJ nets us <10 mil in CAP space. In fact, say Hutch does retire. I'm not sure you cut Amano until you see if he can win a starting spot at OG. If we simply cut him and Hutch leave we are very weak at OG. Obviously if we sign an OG in FA then you might go ahead and cut Amano but since he can play OG or C it might still be worth waiting into cap to before letting him go to see how some younger guys pan out and if we have any injuries.

You could make the same argument for Hawkins. Sure he is over paid but if we had a rash of injuries, like we did a few years ago he is a guy who can step in and play. So since ultimately you don't save that much might as well wait and see if he earns a roster spot.

I'm not sure how I feel about FA but looking back at guys like Harper, Mawea, Hope does make you think we could solidify some spots without breakig the bank. But it really depends on who is really a FA since some guys will be retained by their teams so we need to wait and see. For example, one guy I'd consider is Paul Kruger (Baltimore) since he looks more like a 4-3 DE. Solid player who won't break the bank.

On the OL we have enough long in the tooth guys in Roos and Stewart. Instead of paying out for a FA I'd actually feel better about trying to find one or two guys in the draft who can be good enough to be solid starters. Maybe a SS would be a good signing (we actually did that twice before with Schulters and Hope)and there seem to be a decent amount of FA talent at S this year. Maybe find a guy like we did in Hope.
