We lost a 5 star running back to Michigan and are currently not in anyone's top 25 in recruiting. Still time but we are getting out recruited by Vandy and Ole Miss at this point.

    Not good.

Another 7 win season is coming. The orange has lost its luster. I think the program is officially third tier SEC and will not be back anytime soon with Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, A&M, LSU running wild and Miss St, Ole Miss and Vandy rising.

This is what happens when a supposedly top 10 job goes to a guy who couldn't win anything significant at Cincinnati. Hire the guy who your lame duck coach you just fired beat.

You do realize the word "historically" includes not only last season, but as a whole? I'll take the 73-29 record all time, good luck in the music city bowl next year.

Lol. I'm not a Vandy fan. I just used Vandy as an example because we both know UT's other rivals, UF, Bama, and UGA are light years ahead of UT. Vandy is the realistic one of being caught any time soon.

Enjoy the history, because the present sucks.

Only 18 college teams have won a championship based on the AP or Coaches polls since their inception in 1936. Only 30 have ever won.

UT is one of the 18. UT is one of the top 10 in bowl appearances and wins.

UT is unquestionably one of the most successful and historic college football programs of all time.

No matter how much you hate, that won't change the facts. Yes it's not 1998 anymore, but UT is one of the few to have a championship in the BCS era.

I'm a little surprised that Dooley didn't go the attorney/adminstrative route. He's an impressive guy, just not as a coach.

So then you agree this is a step down for Dooley. Because head coach at one of the best college universities is obviously >>>>> than a WR NFL coach.

I'd rather be in the NFL(especially the Dallas ****ing Cowboys) than coaching amateur football, but that's just me. I don't look through creamsicle-colored glasses though.

Then you are out of touch with reality.

I'm asking what the better job is and in no conceivable way is a positions coach in the NFL better than a top HC college job, regardless of that programs recent history.

See, here's where we disagree; I don't think UT is a top job anymore. Hasn't been since probably 2004. Maybe it was a few years after because of reputation, but that cupboard is BARE right now. Fulmer got complacent and the program has been bad ever since. No one wants to coach there. Top recruits aren't going there.

It's easy to stay on top once you're there, but it's REALLY hard to get back there once you fall. Takes a transcendent kind of coach/recruiter. These kids coming out of high school don't care about what happened four coaching staffs ago. What they see is Vandy putting up 40+ on them and conference games that aren't even remotely competitive.
