I just don't think this was solely Munch's hire. Being that Munch is on the hot seat, I don't see him bringing in anyone that would put his job at risk.

Also, there is just way too much controversy coming from Gregg Williams to the point where Bud would clearly have to get involved in making this tough hire.

There was clearly Munch's hire. He knows that if they dont win this year, he is gone. He is going to do everything he can to make this team better and hiring Williams does just that. It doesnt make his seat hotter, it cant get any hotter. If the D does well, he's not going to replace Munch. They win, Munch stays head coach.

To me, it's a backup plan that won't exist during the season for the defense....

I honestly don't know what to make of this move. Somebody please school me on this. All I remember is that Williams was here and then became Buffalo's HC and Gray was his DC and has since been DC in NO up until bountygate.

A lengthy explanation will be greatly appreciated, I honestly don't know much at all about Williams. 4-3 guy? Defensive mastermind? Please enlighten me.

This is a GREAT move. We discussed this possibility in another thread. This IS the first piece of news I've heard that actually makes me interested in next season. We need a beast DT in the draft or a kick DT/DE in FA. Maybe a CB.

Great move. I'm stoked about it. Is it official and what is his position?

    Same.

It pissed me off at first because I think he's a punk and extremely overrated, but this has to help our team out. He won't be doing bounties anymore.

We will become known as a dirty team pretty quickly... Which can be good and bad.

The only good thing I can really point to is he will basically be our defensive cord.

Gray may be officially, but you don't being in someone like Williams, to play second fiddle to Gray. Keeping Gray is probably to keep the headlines away from us. Dare I say Munch did something smart?

    4-3, yes.

He's up and down. He has a great résumé and tons of experience. The year he joined the Saints, they won the Super Bowl. Now, they were actually a good team before he joined them, but their defense sucked. He made them into a top 10 defense. They brought the heat and forced the most turnovers in the league.

But if you recall the 2011 playoffs, the Seahawks destroyed them. Same thing happened in the 2012 playoffs against the 49ers.

He can get too crazy with blitzes when he should be conservative.
