Titans coach Mike Munchak is shuffling his coaching staff to fill open spots.

The team plans to promote Chet Parlavecchio to linebackers coach, according to sources familiar with the situation, while the Titans are also moving Nate Kaczor to special teams coach with the team.

Parlavecchio served the last two seasons as special teams assistant with the Titans. He’ll fill the position formerly held by Frank Bush, who wasn’t retained following the 2012 season.

Kaczor served as assistant offensive line coach in ’12, his first year with the team. Munchak relieved long-time special teams coach Alan Lowry of his duties last week.

Parlavecchio takes over a group of linebackers that are young, but talented.

Under Bush’s guidance, second-year linebacker Akeem Ayers led the team with 101 tackles in 2012, and he also had six sacks and eight quarterback pressures. Zach Brown, a second round pick out of North Carolina, had 93 tackles and three interceptions in his rookie season, including two he returned for touchdowns in the season finale against the Jaguars.

The absence of middle linebacker Colin McCarthy clearly hurt the team all season, however – McCarthy missed nine games with injuries.

Parlavecchio joined the Titans prior to the 2011 after spending more than two decades as a head high school coach in New Jersey. He also spent two years as linebackers coach at Temple in 1992-93. He played linebacker at Penn State, where he was teammates with Munchak.

Parlavecchio is known for his high energy approach to the game. Several players have said he brought ideas to the special teams room that resulted in positive plays during the past two seasons.

Kaczor served as assistant special teams coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2008-2011. He spent the 17 years prior to that coaching at the college level.

Hey Munch I was your waiter once in 2010 at that one steakhouse. Anyways you called me buddy and told me to call you Big Mike, in my mind that makes us friends. What I'm trying to get at is um... Can I be assistant Defensive Coordinator or DB coach?

Well if none of these hires/promotions work out ,I hear Ed the janitor has always wanted to be a position coach under a really crappy head coach.

Not true. Ed has officially asked to be released to take a lateral promotion with the Raiders.

I am usually one of the most optimistic Titans fans around, but I'm really having a hard time finding anything good with all these coaching shuffles.

If these guys were all the best person available to fill the positions then why didn't Munch have them in those positions from the very beginning of his regime. Either Munch screwed up then or screwed up now or more than likley has screwed up both times.

I really think that this time next year we will be looking for a new coach.

As if Johnson needed to be developed. And funny how it doesn't mention how he "developed" the other 3 first round WR picks Charles Rogers, Roy Williams and Mike Williams...

Or Bud didnt want to play 2 salaries and wanted to wait for contracts to run out. When "rebuilding" a team, you generally dont make a lot of changes the first year after your big changes, you give it a year to find out. After a 9-7 season, but a loss to the Colts, TN still had something to be optimistic about so no changes were made going into the 2nd year of his regime.

After last year, contracts run out, and people get replaced.
