ok.. hiding it is acceptable.. Fabricating a total lie and making the sports world believe it is not acceptable. It's allowable to be girlfriendless... I could even see the making up an online gf..

but to lie and said she died of cancer, and let the media believe it?
    Guy is a S#%$bag.

    bye bye first round pick..

Congratulations on the 5th round pick to the Jets. I could maybe see him go in the 2nd though.. with much booing.

I just can't seem him slipping past the 2nd round. I actually expect he'll still go in the first, albeit later than previously thought. He's definitely too risky to take in the top 10 at this point. But once you get into the mid-20's and beyond, he starts to have some serious value. He'll be able to convince at least one GM that this was just a terrible mistake and he's learned from it.

And if that turns out to be the case, the GM with the sack to draft him might end up looking like a genius when all is said and done.

We saw an impressice Rey Maualuga fall to the second. I could see him doing it as well. People are going to shun him like he's got the black plague on draft day.

Nobody wants this kind of schlock in their franchise.. and as long as this guy is on their team.. they will have to deal with it. I, for one.. will probably never like the guy after this..

I agree with a bit of what you're saying. But like they say, "It only takes one...". I just have a feeling there's going to be some GM who can't look past the obvious talent and views the potential rewards as outweighing the potential risks.

I will not be surprised if he falls to the 2nd. I will be extremely shocked if he slips past the 2nd round though.

I believe that Te'o is a total victim in this case. This chick did this just for kicks. Te'o meets her after a Stanford football game. She lies to him saying she is a Stanford grad. They then carry on a long distance relationship over the internet and phone. Te'o considers her his girlfriend although they have only seen each other once or twice. You must remember that Te'o is a devout Mormon and thus a little naive about relationships. This crazy chick gets a friend to be in on the gig and the friend acts like her brother. They make up stories like the car crash and leukemia and Te'o believes them. It isn't like he has all the money and time in the world to fly out and see her. He believes the stories because he has been hood winked. The brother calls and informs Te'o of her death and of course he believes it.

The real question is when did Te'o truely realize that he had been hoodwinked. Obviously a very embarrassing situation that no one would want spread around, but that was bound to come to life.

People can be mean and do crazy stuff. Had a girl in my residency who claimed to have been kidnapped by some Mexicans and was being driven to the border. She said they stopped for gas and she was able to escape from the trunk where she had been tied up. Was really shocking story and everyone was so glad she survived unharmed, until the police found video surviellance cameras that showed she was the only one in the car and she had freaked out and just driven herself to Texas.

I think Te'o was naive and hoodwinked.

Okay, but then what was the endgame for the girl? What was she getting out of this? Remember, Manti claims they talked every night all through the night while she was in the hospital. That's quite a bit of dedication just for a laugh, don't you think?

I asked the following question earlier - what would possibly drive a person to continue this joke for over two years? Ha ha, yeah, fun and games for maybe the first two weeks but, COME ON. Who wants to sit on the phone with manti Te'o until he falls asleep - for two years! It just doesn't add up. Where was the payoff for them? What's the point? He had to have known about this.

Knowing this organization, we'll probably trade up for Manti Te'o.
