Titans tight end Jared Cook is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in March, and he’s a player the team is very much interested in retaining.

Cook can’t help but question the team’s decision to fire his position coach last week, however. John Zernhelt was relieved of his duties by coach Mike Munchak after spending seven seasons with the team.

Along with Zernhelt, running backs coach Jim Skipper, special teams coach Alan Lowry and linebackers coach Frank Bush have all been let go since season’s end.

“I didn’t get Frank Bush at all, and I don’t get Coach Z either,’’ Cook said. “I am very surprised at that, very surprised. I just don’t understand that move. Point black. Period. I mean, Coach Z was a great run blocking coach and he really explained the run game and he really broke things down to where you could really understand things better.

“And he was great in the development of all of us. I just don’t get why you would want to let a guy like that go.”

As a whole, Cook said players are wondering.

“Some of the things they’ve done, I don’t understand,’’ Cook said. “I feel like Coach Z was too good to let go. I loved him as a coach, and he was the kind of guy you needed on the staff. He was the kind of guy who was going to have you prepared. I don’t get a lot of things that are happening.”

Would have been nice to see at least one good blocking play by Cook the entire year then..

If 'Coach Z' was such an amazing run blocker then why did Cook suck so much at blocking?

    Exactly

Had to sit him so that we could help get the running game going and the first thing he does? Wants a trade.

Poor 40 watt. Cook doesn't realize the good coaches ASKED to be fired so they could land a job that would last more than 1 year.

Cook will have to wait one more year before he gets to leave town.

He's making good points though... I'm glad all the players are questioning Munch's dumb*ss staff changes.
