Better health certainly played a big role in defensive end Derrick Morgan’s breakout season in 2012, but Morgan was quick to credit the help he got from pass-rush specialist Keith Millard as well.

Under the direction of Millard for the first time last season, Morgan produced a team-high and career-best 6.5 sacks – four of which came in the team’s final five games. Morgan also recorded a team-high 19 quarterback pressures, more than twice that of Kamerion Wimbley (nine), who had the second-most on the team.

“Millard was very critical of me and I needed that,” Morgan said. “He kind of pointed out things I needed to work on. I kind of approached (each) week of practice with a couple things I needed to get better at, and just tried to take that into the game.”

Morgan, the team’s 2010 first-round pick, said Millard offered plenty of assistance on Sundays as well.

“The biggest thing was that during games, we’d make adjustments on the sidelines,” Morgan said. “He’d say, `This guy is doing this and he’s giving up this,’ so we’d change up the rush according to what he was seeing. That definitely helped me out a great deal.”

Overall, the Titans produced 39 sacks in Millard’s first year, a nearly 40 percent jump from last year’s total of 28.

Sounds like Millard is a keeper on this staff.

6.0 sacks team high in 2011
6.5 sacks team high in 2012

That's sad. Even though as a team, we were average with our sack total.. i'd like a star on the line please. Someone who gets double digits consistently.

I'm not convinced Keith Millard is worth anything.

Morgan is our best defensive lineman anyways, no surprise he's becoming good all of a sudden after he's been injury free for some time.

Morgan was never really known as a speed rusher but if you look past the sack numbers he got a lot of pressures and hits. Sacks don't tell everything.

Morgan had a very solid season and we just need a guy on the other side to do the same. The fact Morgan really came on late is a huge plus.

    Look at these numbers:
    12
    12
    15

Those are the number of sacks COMBINED by Kearse and Carter the three years they played together. In the first year Kearse had 10, Carter 2. The next year kearse got hurt and it was Carter 10, Kearse 2. The last year it was 5.5 for Carter and 9.5 for Kearse.
