Alex Smith was garbage until Harbaugh got his hands on him and made him serviceable. Could you imagine what Dowell and Munch would do to him? He'd be worse than he ever was. They would destroy him beyond recognition. No other team would ever consider him after we got through with him.

Alex Smith had an 82 rating (10 pts higher than Locker) the 2 years prior to Harbaugh arriving. It's true that Harbaugh's offence has minimized his INTs and further lifted his rating to 90 and 100 in respective years, but he was not garbage. If he was then I wonder what you call Locker...

First off, Locker will be alright. Right now he plays very streaky, but he has shown that once he gets going he can make pretty accurate throws.
Our whole team stinks right now and that has a lot of influence on a young QB. Once Locker gets into a rythm he is really not that bad.
The Packers game showed what some of our biggest weaknesses are right now. They are inexperience, questionable offensive play calling, even worse defensive play calling and the worst Safety combo in the NFL.
In my opinion the following needs to happen:
    - Get coordinators who can keep up with today's game. Someone who is creative and can utilize the talent that is on this team.
-Munchak needs to decide if he wants to be Fisher 2.0 or turn this franchise around. I would give him another year with brand new coordinators.
-The Titans need to be very active in FA this offseason. They need to look at every FA Safety out there. Same goes for O-Line. Need to start looking for an upgrade at RT and move Big Country to RG.
-Do not draft another WR in the first round of the draft this year. Focus on Defense and O-line in the early rounds.
-Try to trade Mike "Whiffin" Griffin. I'm pretty sure Fisher will be interested. Maybe in a package deal with Amano.
-If Rex Ryan gets canned from the Jets try to sign him as our DC. (Ok, now I'm dreaming a bit...)

Alex Smith posted a 40.8 rat. his first season and a 74.8 in his second season. Locker posted a 99.4 his first year and is currently at 72.9 this year. Alex Smith's rat. averaged 67.3 in his years in the league before Harbaugh. Locker is currently at 77.7 over his career. Locker is quite a bit better than Smith was before he had Harbaugh.

Way to post Smith's best rat. after being in the league for 5 years. Locker has played in a big total of 15 games. He's still a rookie and hasn't had a lick of competent coaching since he's been in the league. Just wait, he'll be fine if we can ever get a decent coach in here.

I never said Alex Smith had a better rookie start than Locker. The discussion was whether he's garbage or an upgrade over Locker and there's no question he would be an immediate upgrade. The fact that I don't see Locker progressing the way he ought to be after spending a year learning on the bench has nothing to do with Alex Smith. Although if you want to go into that discussion, then we can start discussing Alex Smith starting without the benefit of a year on the bench, horrible OL, poor WR and all the other excuses that are made for Locker.

What are you talking about, "there's no question he would be an immediate upgrade"?????

Alex Smith is not as good as Jake Locker.

Yea Jake looks bad lately, but he's got a joke of an offense to work with. Dude gets a pass this time around cause he has no chance with this team.

:biglaugh: @ you thinking that a year on the bench behind a washed up old vet under a crap coaching staff on a bad team is a "benefit".

Even if you give Smith the same excuses as Locker gets, Locker is still better.
This team is a disaster, and since Munch fired Palmer, Jake has no coordinator. Now he's playing poorly. That is to be expected. He might as well not even have an offensive line either. Locker can be great with real coaching and a decent offensive line. It's hard for locker to win games and put up good numbers when the team around him has quit.

Maybe you haven't been watching Locker before these last few games, but he's been pretty good. Better than Alex Smith. I'd LOVE to see what a good coach like Harbaugh could do with Jake. He's got the tools, we've just got to get Munch and Dowell's hands off of him.

Hey, I know everyone agrees that Locker sucks. And obviously if you can't hit 60% completion you're a bust. Also, if you get sacked alot you're inept, and if you lose the ball alot, you alost suck. So, here is a quiz for you. Below are the stats for four starters this year. Pick the names of who the stats belong to and you will win a prize!

CPCT TD/INT Sck RTG FBL LSt
    ratio
    54.1 1.27 41 76.5 10 5

    66.4 4.0 29 104.1 12 2

    63.4 2.5 27 98.0 5 3

    56.5 1.27 30 78.8 4 4
