Wanted to dedicate a thread for Derrick Morgans play this year. Not many people talk about him, other than that he's a bust. However, i've been VERY impressed with his play this year.

    https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/12/11/pass-rushing-productivity-3rd-4th-down/

He's rated as one of the most productive pass rushers in the league. D'Morg did have a slow start to the season, but hes picked things up as a pass rusher since Week 7. Since Week 7, he has had a Pass Rush Productivity Rating (PFF rating) of 14.0. Had he played that well the entire season he would be leading all defensive ends in this category.

    54 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 1 FF
Now I know his stats are not that impressive. But sacks are not everything, just getting pressure on the QB and getting thim out of the comfort zone is huge. I would like to see his sack number up, hopefully near double digits. The tackles are impressive and he's been solid against the run all year.

My point is, watch D'Morg.. he's been a hidden gem this year.

I hope we can get a playmaker on defense in the draft. Either Star of Te'o is what i'm dreaming about. We still need DE depth. But Star would make a huge difference for both Wimbley and Morgan.

Yeah, ranking a D-Lineman by sacks is like ranking DB's by interceptions, which would make guys like Jason Babin and DeAngelo Hall one of the best DE's and Corners ever in the world at one point in their careers.

But unfortunately that's how most people rank these players.

Great point. The position isn't all about sacks. Run support and pressures are a major part of it, and D'Morg excels at that.

The problem on our D-line isn't that we don't have good players it's the fact that wedo not have that one dominating presence that frees up all the other players. We need a Hayneswerth or Allen on our line badly.

Also, I've been very impressed with Morgan all year. It seems to me that he is really coming into his own at DE.

Derrick has had a solid year. Still has not had the impact that you would like out of a mid first rnd pick. Hopefully he can continue to improve and with better players/scheme around him start making some impact plays.

William Hayes is having a good year with the Rams racking up 6 sacks so far.

I like the pressure that Ayers and Brown have been bringing from the Lber position.

I still maintain the problem is our DL coaches have our DE's bullrush the tackles every time. We hardly seem to stunt or slant and I don't think I've seen a single spin move (in a pass rush situation) all season...

This year has been catastrophic BUT I've been high on our talent level for a while now - both on offense and defense - but as it pertains to this thread lets focus on D.

I've made some really good posts analyzing Morgan's play (earlier on in the season when I cared to re-watch games). He understands gap control really well, he can push OT's and bull rush well, and his agility moves have gotten much better (namely his patented spin move - he has used it really well this year).

Coming out of college, they dubbed him as a future all-around good player, and now we are really starting to see that. He's the guy that might not get you all those sacks, but will generate all types of pressure/hits/knockdowns and possible interception chances for others as a result - ALL WITHOUT giving up his gap for huge rushing holes... I would love to see some stunts involving Zach Brown and DM....

Even though we have given a plethora of points so many times, I refuse to believe that we don't have talent. Really, other than safety, we ARE MORE THAN SOLID across the damn board - and young to booot. I want someone who can develop these guys moving forward.

Morgan, Casey, Martin, Klug, KW(should be moved around more), even SDM has looked better than I thought he would.

Ayers, Brown, McCarthy (if he ever figures out his health) is a stellar group.

ATV and JMAC both are good as well, and can be even better.... Not sure if Coty deserves to be starting just yet, but picking up a number 3 CB in FA shouldn't be that hard...

I'm serious here, add a good coordinator and a good S (through FA), throw in some determination and drive, and that great D that Gray was able to bring out for a small stretch can become season-long realities down the line...

would have been a solid 3rd or 4th round pick....

still not worth the decently high pick, and nowhere nearly as good as JPP, taken right before him.. that's what stings.
