Since 2006, the Green Bay Packers are 15-2 at Lambeau Field in December/January games, the second-best home record in the league during that time behind only the New England Patriots (15-1).

The Packers rank fourth in the league in scoring offense in those contests (26.5 points per game) and fifth in scoring defense (18.4 points allowed per game).

But what about the home-field advantage provided by the nasty Wisconsin winter weather?

Green Bay is bracing for blizzard-like conditions Wednesday night through Thursday night (12-15 inches of snow and 35-40 mile-per-hour winds) , and the forecast high for Sunday’s game against the Titans is 28 degrees.

“We practice in it, we live in it and we’ll be shoveling snow tomorrow, so hopefully we’re not too tired from that,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said with a chuckle. “But I think you can put too much into that when you a play a team from the south and it’s cold. The reality is they’re only out there for three-and-a-half hours. It’s a football game.

“I don’t put a lot of salt into that. I think frankly I’d classify that as false confidence — if you go into a game and hope your opponent isn’t going to play as well because they’re from the south.”

Nonetheless, the Packers don’t practice indoors very often, figuring that conditioning themselves to the cold can be a benefit.

“We make a big point to get out in it every chance we can, so we had a good practice outdoors today,” McCarthy said. “We do extensive ball drills this time of year to make sure we’re handling the football properly.”

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a California native, joked that the upcoming blizzard could put a damper on his late Christmas shopping.

“I don’t think you can ever really get used to (the weather),” Rodgers said. “You just get a little better about dealing with it, where cold becomes a little more relative. For me, I go back to California and it’s 60 degrees and I’m in short sleeves and shorts. Other people are bundled up.

“I don’t think there’s anyone that really enjoys playing in it. But maybe we’re just a little less miserable than opposing teams coming in.”

Everyone gets cold so nobody's at an advantage.

This is only a mental thing for visiting teams.

Just curious if you've played a game below 0C or in the snow? I was lucky to be on 4 championship teams out of the 7 years I played. Living in Canada, games in December got extremely cold, but you learn to live with it. GB is used to it, the Titans, I highly doubt it. I disagree with you, the elements will play a role when one team is used to it and the other is not.

Yes I have played in below 0c in the snow, but the Titans wont be playing in those conditions. It'll be freezing, but so what. You play 40 seconds then warm up on the sidelines.

This isn't high school, these guys have heaters on the sidelines.

The Titans wont be out of their element this Sunday, they'll be out of their league, Green Bay will slaughter us. When we lose it will be more because we just can't play with these guys than us being cold.

Well I can't argue with you there. GB will pick us apart, but that won't be a fault of weather that's for sure.

However a fumble or two from the cold wouldn't shock me, although we've been doing that on our own in warm climates.

never played a game in those temps but I have shoveled snow when it was -40° C when I visited Hay River, NWT. Yanno I was out in that in jeans, shirt and a fleece jacket and was warm. It was so cold that there wasn't any moisture/humidity which is what gets you cold. BTW -40°C =-40°F
I did get to visit Yellowknife, NWT while I was up there. That is the farthest north I have ever been

I'm just hoping it's not a repeat of that one time in New England that everyone is trying to forget.

The Packers field is heated and really nice. I bet it is probably better than the Titans field in good weather.
