Maybe a good idea on paper. But the execution sure was god awful. And that's what counts.

Bottom line: Locker's first two years have been wasted.

So far for me, the highlight of Jake's career was that rushing TD against the Saints last year. He showed such great effort and it was just one of those WOW plays.

Two things that are sad about that being the highlight:

    1) It was last year, in a game we lost.
    2) It was a rushing play.

I loved the pick. And I still have high hopes for Jake. But he hasn't showed us much at this point. How much of that is due to injury/system/etc. and how much of it is due to Jake just not being a very good QB is certainly up for debate.

I really hope he pans out. It would be absolutely crushing to blow two back-to-back top 10 QB picks.

I chalk it all up to bad luck at this point.

Jakes first NFL completion was to stupid Lavelle Hawkins, he steps out of bounds 1-yard from a 1st down. We ended up punting and losing the game.

Jake IMO is a piece worth keeping and building around.

Dude, I would love Andy Reid as a coach. 9 out of the 14 seasons = playoffs. His playbook for Locker is exactly what we need. We have the deep vertical threats. I would love him.

Oh definitely. Way too soon to give up on him. It's just a shame we haven't seen more progress than we have. But this entire season has been a complete disaster. So it's hard to blame him much.

I just hope we don't ruin his career by making him run 4 different offenses in 4 years.

No doubt he'd be an upgrade. Pretty much anyone would be though.

What I would really love is to bring in a new defensive minded head coach (like a Ray Horton), and have a guy like Reid come in to run the offense.

    I can dream can't I?

Obviously it depends. Most great QBs are great not only based on talent alone, but also the talent around them and the coaching staff.

That being said, I think Locker has the potential to be a top tier QB with the right players/coaches around him. He has incredible arm strengh, speed and athleticism. And he is mostly making good decisions with the football. Not all his throws are 100% accurate, but I have seen him make some really good throws when he gets into a rhythm. He also mostly seems to be making good reads and is safe with the football. He has thrown 7 ints this year, but 1 was at the end of the jags game in a desperation throw, a tipped pass and WR drop for ints last week, so I can't really get too upset with those.

I think Jake is very competitive, and it showed last week. He looked like the only guy out there trying to win that game, and he did everything he could to do so with little help from anyone else on the team. That is a great quality to have in your QB and team leader.

IMO he just needs reps right now. Remember he didn't get any OTAs his rookie year, then in TC/preseason most of the reps went to Hass, then he sat on the bench all year long ... In his second year he gets OTAs for the 1st time, and in TC/preseason he splits the reps with Hass 50/50. Then he on the 2nd drive against the Texans in week 4 and misses the basically 6 games (if you count the Texans). If you count up all the reps he had so far, and compare to someone like Luck or RGIII who was given basically 100% of the reps from day 1 then he has

    - 1 OTA
    - 1 full TC/Preseason's worth of starter reps (50% reps rookie year, 50% 2nd year)
    - 6 starts (again, not counting week 4 vs Texans)

Guys like Luck and RG3 basically have ...

    - 1 OTA
    - 100% of reps in TC/Preseason
    - 12 starts (did RG3 miss some games? I can't remember)

To me Locker is actually behind these guys as far as experience goes. I know Locker got to sit on the bench and learn from Hass, which I am sure helped some what, but I am a firm believer in the philosophy of start the guys early, let them learn from their own mistakes, and at the same time they will be creating chemistry with their team and getting used to the speed of the NFL. I just don't think much can be learned on the bench other than the playbook.

So in an effort to get Locker caught up on his reps, I think they should start letting him throw 50 times a game. We aren't going to the playoffs anyway, lets get Jake his reps (reps can't hurt the WRs either, maybe they will learn to catch)

I feel like Jake is a self motivated guy, and like I said earlier, will push himself to do what it takes to win. And I think he can become a great leader for this team, however, I still don't think he has fully stepped up into that leadership role. With Hass having all the exp and being the starter all year last year, I think the players still viewed him has the leader in OTAs and TC/preseason until JL was named starter, and I think Jake himself viewed Hass as the leader during that time. Then after the injury, Hass was the leader of the team again for about 5 games. I just feel like we haven't made the transition 100% yet to it being Jakes team.

I am excited with what the future holds for JL, but I know it may take another season or 2 to really get there.

    So in conclusion:

    It can happen, kinda.

    HC: Andy Reid
    DC: Ron Rivera

HA! That would be the day. It's not the D-Minded HC you wanted, but Andy Reid handles the team stuff, growing of Locker, and OL.. Ron worries about turning this D around.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Reid doesn't want another HC gig right away. With the way he's been raked over the coals in Philly. Plus everything with his son. I bet the guy is beyond burned out. He may actually want to take a step back from it all for awhile.
