Titans wide receiver Damian Williams is paying the price for being a nice guy.

Williams pulled up to avoid a big collision with a security guard on the sidelines last Sunday at LP Field, following an incomplete pass from Jake Locker.

But as a result of stopping short, Williams aggravated the hamstring injury he’d suffered the previous week. Williams didn’t return to the game and Titans coach Mike Munchak said Wednesday he didn’t think Williams would play this week against the Colts.

“I tried to pull up and avoid him, and that’s when it happened,” said Williams, adding he felt the hamstring pop on the play. “You see people run into guys on the sideline all the time. It was just bad luck I guess.”

The security guard’s back was to the field during the play, so he had no idea Williams was approaching. Was he thankful Williams pulled up?

“I haven’t talked to him, but I’d assume so, because had I not, he’d probably be in a pretty good amount of pain,” Williams said. “I had a helmet on and he wasn’t wearing pads.”

Williams laughed when asked what he’d choose to do if a similar situation occurs in the future.

“That’s the thing. I don’ t know now,” Williams said. “I don’t know if I need to just say, ‘Forget it,’ and run over him.”

Too much crap on the sidelines at football games and basketball games. Especially basketball games. My god, you'd think people would realize guys are running full-speed towards the basket and might need somewhere to fall...

Every week I see these fat blobs on the verge of getting blown up and they never flinch. Are they that committed to watching the stands or do they have no sense of what is going on around them?

Agree with the stuff your saying there guys.

This is almost a pointless article, or at least the way its titled. Sure its nice to know the reason a player gets injured, but a guy can just as easily get injured if he runs into someone he is not expecting (even if that person is w/o pads).
Personally, i've seen it many times in both cases where players get injured b/c they either ran into someone or they pulled up / tried to dodge a person.

What this article SHOULD be highlighting, is how even in VERY LIMITED time on the field, Williams has been one of our most consistent receivers. I've watched every game and I can recall many times where, he's come on, made a solid play, then gets taken strait off.
Please don't look at his overall season stat line to gauge him. Personally, i'm too lazy to look, but again I've watched every game (usually more than once) and I rarely see him 'featured' on a play, let alone on the field for that many plays in a game.
By 'featured' I mean, when he's been either the first or second read (on a pass play). In most those cases the ball went to him b/c he was open. Again, i don't have actual proof of such (numbers and evidence whatever), but that's what I remember.
In his 3rd season, from what I saw, I think he could have done a lot more for us (especially with KB, our other 'big' WR ineffective till now)....

The punch-on in the Celtics Brooklyn game had some classic crowd facial expressions.
